Best Weapons to get in Destiny 2 Lightfall & Season of Defiance
We’ve had a load of great new weapons added to Destiny 2 as part of the Lightfall and Season of Defiance. Today I want to look at the best weapons to get since the release, plus check out why they are good, the best perks to get and how to get them in Destiny 2.
Without further delay, let’s dive into the list.
Synchronic Roulette
Synchronic Roulette is a Legendary Kinetic Submachine Gun with a Precision Frame meaning the this weapon’s recoil pattern is more predictably vertical. This one comes with the origin trait Nanotech Tracer Rockets, where landing multiple hits turns your next shot into a homing micro-missle.
For PVE Pulse Monitor and Hatchling would be good.
- Pulse Monitor – Automatically reloads the magazine and improves weapon handling when wounded—even when this weapon is stowed.
- Hatchling – Precision final blows or rapidly defeating targets with a non-precision weapon spawns a Threadling at the target’s location.
For PVP Envious Assassin, and Target Lock would be good.
- Envious Assassin – Rapidly defeating targets with other weapons before drawing this one transfers ammo to the magazine from reserves. This effect can overflow the magazine based on the number of targets defeated.
- Target Lock – Damage increases the longer this weapon remains on a target.
To get Synchronic Roulette you’ll need to compete the Terminal Overload activity on Neptune when the activity is located in Liming Harbour, and open up the chest with a Terminal Overload Key. This chest can be found on the right hand side after you beat the final boss.
Harsh Language
Harsh Language is a Legendary Energy Void Grenade Launcher with a Wave Frame meaning it’s a one-shot handheld Grenade Launcher. Projectiles release a wave of energy when they contact the ground. This one comes with the Origin Trait Field Tested where defeating targets or dealing damage with this weapon gradually increases range, stability, handling and reload speed.
For PVE Envious Assassin and Destabilizing Rounds.
- Envious Assassin – Rapidly defeating targets with other weapons before drawing this one transfers ammo to the magazine from reserves. This effect can overflow the magazine based on the number of targets defeated.
- Destabilizing Rounds – Final blows cause nearby targets to become volatile.
For PVP Envious Assassin and Golden Tricorn.
- Envious Assassin – Rapidly defeating targets with other weapons before drawing this one transfers ammo to the magazine from reserves. This effect can overflow the magazine based on the number of targets defeated.
- Golden Tricorn – Final blows with this weapon grant bonus damage. While this buff is active, grenade or melee kills of the same damage type greatly increase its damage and duration.
Harsh Language is a world drop weapon in Destiny 2 Lightfall, meaning you can get it from a range of activities. Farming public events or ranking up with Nimbus, both on Neomuna is a good way to get the weapon. Given it’s a world drop, Banshee-44 will be selling it at some point, and his inventory resets on Tuesdays.
Acasia’s Dejection
Acasia’s Dejection is a Legendary Energy Trace Rifle with an Adaptive Frame meaning it has a well-rounded grip, reliable and sturdy. The origin trait on the Root of Nightmares weapons is Harmonic Resonance. Equipping multiple weapons from this set grants this weapon increased reload speed and handling. It also deals increased damage versus Tormentors, Lucent Hive, and Guardians using their Supers.
For PVE Rewind Rounds and Incandescent
- Rewind Rounds – When this weapon’s magazine is empty, it refills from reserves based on the number of hits.
- Incandescent – Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.
For PVP Perpetual Motion, High-Impact Reserves
- Perpetual Motion – This weapon gains bonus stability, handling, and reload speed while the wielder is in motion.
- High-Impact Reserves – Rounds at the end of the magazine deal more damage.
To get this Legendary Trace Rifle you’ll have to run the Root of Nightmares raid, which arrived as part of the Lightfall expansion. You can get this from the 2nd and 3rd encounter (which are Scission and Planets). You also have the chance to get the weapon from the final boss at the end. Once you get the weapon you’ll also be able to get it from the secret chests found in the raid, however, it has to be in your loot pool before you can get it to drop there.
Iterative Loop
Iterative Loop is a Legendary Energy Fusion Rifle with a Rapid-Fire Frame meaning deeper ammo reserves. Slightly faster reload when the magazine is empty. The Origin Trait on this one is Nanotech Tracer Rockets, which means landing multiple hits turns your next shot into a homing micro-rocket.
For PVE Compulsive Reloader and Voltshot would be good.
- Compulsive Reloader – Grants increased reload speed when close to full magazine.
- Voltshot – Reloading this weapon after defeating a target overcharges this weapon for a short period of time, causing it to jolt on its next hit.
For PVP Under Pressure and Kickstart would be good.
- Under Pressure – Improved stability and accuracy as the magazine gets lower
- Kickstart – Gain bonus damage and charge rate during a slide after sprinting for an improved duration.
To get this one your best bet is to rank up with Nimbus on Neomuna. When you get 5 deep sight versions of the weapon you’ll be able to craft this one for yourself. There are a couple of ways to get the deep sight version, which has a red border. Get engrams from ranking up with Nimbus, once you’ve maxed out their reputation track (after rank 30), open terminal overload chest rewards with keys, plus heroic patrols on Neomuna.
Rufus’s Fury
Rufus’s Fury is a Legendary Kinetic Auto Rifle with a rapid-Fire Frame meaning deeper ammo reserves, plus it deals Strand damage. Slightly faster reload when magazine is empty. Looking at the stats we have Impact 18, Range 34, Stability 58, Handling 41, Reload Speed 50, Airborne Effectiveness 22, Rounds Per Minute 720, Magazine 55.
This one comes with the Origin Trait Harmonic Resonance. Equipping multiple weapons from this set grants this weapon increased reload speed and handling. It also deals increased damage versus Tormentors, Lucent Hive, and Guardians using their Supers.
For PVE Reconstruction and Target Lock would be decent.
- Reconstruction – This weapon slowly reloads itself over time, up to double capacity
- Target Lock – Damage increases the longer this weapon remains on a target
For PVP Perpetual Motion and Tap the Trigger would be good.
Perpetual Motion – This weapon gains bonus stability, handling, and reload speed while the wielder is in motion
Tap the Trigger – Grants a short period of increased stability and accuracy on initial trigger pull
To get this one you are going to need to go into the Root of Nightmares Raid in Destiny 2 Lightfall. It can drop from the 3rd and final encounter, and once you get hold of it you can get it from the secret chests in the raid too. Collect 5 red border versions of the weapon and you’ll be able to craft it at the Enclave on Savathun’s Throne World.
Autumn Wind
Autumn Wind is a Legendary Kinetic Pulse Rifle is a Rapid-Fire Frame with deeper ammo reserves. Slightly faster reload when magazine is empty. The Origin Trait is called One Quiet Moment which grants increased reload speed when out of combat.
For PVE Arrowhead Brake, Ricochet Rounds, Demolitionist and Rampage/Adrenaline Junkie is good.
- Demolitionist – Kills with this weapon generate grenade energy. Activating your grenade ability reloads this weapon from reserves.
- Rampage – Kills with this weapon temporarily grant increased damage. Stacks 3x.
- Adrenaline Junkie – This weapon gains increased damage and handling from final blows with grenades or this weapon.
For PvP Hammer-Forged Rifling, Ricochet Rounds, Killing Wind and Rampage.
- Killing Wind – Final blows grant increased mobility, weapon range, and handling for a short duration.
- Rampage – Kills with this weapon temporarily grant increased damage. Stacks 3x.
To get this one you have to play crucible, and it’s the featured weapon for crucible this season, meaning you’ll have a chance for it to drop for you after matches. You’ll also be able to get it by ranking up with Lord Shaxx in the Tower.
Round Robin
Round Robin is a Legendary Kinetic Hand Cannon with an Aggressive Frame meaning it’s high damage, high recoil. Optimized for long-distance shooting. This one comes with the origin trait Nanotech Tracer Rockets, where landing multiple hits turns your next shot into a homing micro-missle.
For PVE Envious Assassin, Hatchling would be good.
- Envious Assassin – Rapidly defeating targets with other weapons before drawing this one transfers ammo to the magazine from reserves. This effect can overflow the magazine based on the number of targets defeated.
- Hatchling – Precision final blows or rapidly defeating targets with a non-precision weapon spawns a Threadling at the target’s location.
For PVP Keep Away and Kill Clip would be good.
- Keep Away – Increased reload, range, and accuracy when no combatants are in close proximity.
- Kill Clip – Reloading after a kill grants increased damage.
To get this one, the easiest way to get this is from a post Lightfall campaign quest. Once you have finished up the Lightfall Campaign you’ll get a quest called To Hero, and this will reward you Round Robin.
The Immortal
The Immortal is a Legendary Kinetic Strand Submachine Gun with an Aggressive Frame meaning it has high damage, high recoil. Looking at the stats we have Impact 23, Range 50, Stability 25, Handling 58, Reload Speed 30, Airborne Effectiveness 25, Rounds Per Minute 750, and Magazine 28.
We have three origin traits for this one
- Alacrity – Gain increased reload, stability, aim assist, and range when you are the last living member of your fireteam or running solo.
- One Quiet Moment – Grants increased reload speed when out of combat.
- Field Tested – Defeating targets or dealing damage with this weapon gradually increases range, stability, handling, and reload speed.
For PVP Rangefinder and Kill Clip or Target Lock
- Rangefinder – Aiming this weapon increases its effective range and zoom magnification.
- Kill Clip – Reloading after a kill grants increased damage.
- Target Lock – Damage increases the longer this weapon remains on a target.
For PVE Encore and Kill Clip or Target Lock
- Encore – Final blows grant a stacking stability, range, and accuracy bonus to this weapon. Precision final blows grant more stacks.

To get this one you’ll have to play Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2. You’ll have to rank up to rank 10 with Saint-14 to get the first version of this to drop, or if the weapon is the featured Adept Weapon for the week, you can get it from a flawless run.
