The Manticore is a new Exotic SMG added to Destiny 2 as part of Season of the Seraph. This is a very unique exotic weapon as it allows you to hover in mid air, raining down bullets on your opponents. Today I am going to have a look at The Manticore, check out the perks and the stats, plus look at how to get The Manticore in Destiny 2.
Before we get into the guide today, let me know in the comments what you think of The Manticore.
How to get The Manticore
To get The Manticore, you want to check out the season pass. This is going to be available at rank 1 for season pass owners, so if you have Season of the Seraph, you can unlock this weapon immediately. For free to play players, you can unlock this at rank 35 on the season pass. To rank up on the season pass, complete seasonal challenges, finish bounties and get XP to level up the season pass nice and quickly. There’s also an ornamnet for The Manticore on the season pass, you’ll be able to get that at rank 100.
The Manticore is an Exotic Energy Submachine Gun that deals Void damage. Looking at the stats we have 15 for impact, 46 for range, 78 for stability, 73 for handling, 30 for reload speed, 65 for aim assist, 15 for zoom and 30 for airborne effectiveness. It’s a 900 rounds per minute smg with 38 in the magazine.
The instrinsic trait on this one is Soaring Fang, where dealing damage while grounded charges the antigrav repulsors. Dealing damage while airborne extends the antigrav repulsors. It also has a perk called Swooping Talons, and that increases damage while you are airborne.
Therefore what you want to do is use the weapon while you are on the ground to charge up the antigrav meter, which you can see over on the left hand side. Then when you jump in the air, you can start shooting with the SMG and you’ll essentially be able to fly around while shooting, meaning you can evade enemies on the ground. If you want to release yourself from floating, press the jump button again and you’ll return to the ground.
This is one of the most unique weapons in Destiny 2, and I can’t wait to see the tricks this weapon allows, as I imagine people are going to be using this weapon to get to places they shouldn’t. I’ve been using this weapon since the start of the season, and it’s very fun, once you get into the rythm of how to use the weapon. My only criticism so far has been the reload speed is very slow, so hopefully we can increase that reload speed somehow in the future.
The Manticore Catalyst
If you want to get hold of the Catalyst, then once you pick up the weapon, Banshee-44 will have the catalyst quest for you. Go and speak to Banshee-44 in the Tower, pick up the quest. Given it’s a seasonal exotic, it’s going to take many hundreds of kills with this SMG to get the catalyst, but it’s going to be well worth it.
