Huge DPS with Star-Eater Scales Hunter Arc 3.0 Build in Destiny 2

Gathering Storm is a Super added to Hunter’s Arc 3.0 kit in Season of Plunder. This is a DPS monster and with the right build, you are going to be deleting bosses in no time at all. Today I am going to run through this huge DPS Hunter Arc 3.0 build with Star-Eater Scales, talking through the aspects, fragments, weapons, exotic armour and mod combinations, so you can delete bosses just by looking at them in Destiny 2.

Arc 3.0 Setup

  • Super: Gathering Storm – Hurl your Arc Staff forward, embedding it into surfaces or large targets and jolting nearby targets. After a short time, a devastating lightning bolt strikes the staff, overcharging it with Arc energy. While overcharged, your staff discharges lightning at nearby foes.
  • Grenade: Skip Grenade
  • Melee: Combination Blow – A quick strike that temporarily increases your melee damage when defeating a target, stacking three times.
  • Class Ability: Gambler’s Dodge – Dodge to perform a deft tumble, avoiding enemy attacks. Dodging near enemies fully recharges your Melee Ability.

Aspects

Flow State – Defeating a jolted target makes you amplified. While you are amplified, your dodge recharges more quickly, you are more resilient while dodging, and your reload speed is greatly increased.

Lethal Current – After dodging, your next melee attack has increased lunge range, jolts the target, and creates a damaging aftershock. Damaging any jolted target with melee attacks also blinds them.

Fragments

  • Spark of Shock – Your arc grenade jolts targets. -10 Discipline
  • Spark of Amplitude – Rapidly defeating targets while you are amplified creates an Orb of Power
  • Spark of Volts – Finishers make you amplified
  • Spark of Discharge – Arc Weapon final blows have a chance to create an Ionic Trace

Exotic Armor

Star-Eater Scales are Exotic Hunter Leg Armor introduced in Season of the Splicer. Let’s check out the main perk.

Feast of Light – You gain additional Super energy from Orbs of Power you pick up. While your Super energy is full, picking up an Orb of Power overcharges your Super, causing you to gain a burst of healing when cast and a bonus to your Super damage. At maximum overcharge, you also gain an over shield.

You can get these from Legend and Master Lost Sectors, when you run them solo on Leg Reward day. Check todayindestiny.com for the location and the loot.

Weapons

Kinetic – Riptide

Riptide is a Legendary Fusion Rifle dealing Stasis damage with a Rapid-Fire Frame meaning it has deeper ammo reserves. Slightly faster reload when the magazine is empty. Auto-loading Holster, Chill Clip would be a decent roll – Direct hits with the top half of the magazine cause a detonation that slows nearby targets. This gives the build a fire and ice quality.

Energy – Trinity Ghoul

Trinity Ghoul was introduced in Forsaken, but it didn’t really get popular until its catalyst was released, which makes the weapon 100% better. Let’s check out the perks on the Combat Bow.

Split Electron – Fires an arrow that splits when released. Aiming down sights and fully drawing the bow both decrease the spread.

Lightning Rod – Precision kills grant the next shot chain-lightning capabilities.

The main benefit of the catalyst is something called Forked Lightning where the Lightning Rod perk now triggers on all Arc final blows. This means you can roll around strikes, nightfalls, nightmare hunts, raids – wherever you want to use this and chain together lightning attacks. Previously you needed a precision kill to trigger this perk, but now it’s much more common and really makes the Trinity Ghoul feel like a powerful Exotic weapon in your hands.

To get Trinity Ghoul it’s a random world drop exotic, so finding them out there in the wild, grinding nightfalls and making sure you check Xur each Friday to see if he’s selling it or not. Beware, you do need access to the Forsaken expansion to pick up this weapon.

Power – Planck’s Stride

This is an Arc Linear Fusion Rifle added in Season of Plunder. It’s got great DPS, plus it’s Arc, which is what you need for a decent Arc build.

Mods

  • Melee Wellmaker – Powered melee combatant final blows spawn elemental wells matching your subclass energy type.
  • Bountiful Wells – Elemental well mods that cause you to spawn elemental wells can now stack, spawning additional wells for each additional copy of the mod you have equipped.
  • Well of Striking – Picking up an Arc elemental well grants you additional melee energy. Multiple copies of this mod increase this effect.
  • Font of Wisdom – Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants you a temporary significant increase in your Intellect, improving the recharge rate of your Super.
  • Harmonic Syphon – Creating orbs with Arc weapon Kills
  • Stasis Syohon – Creating orbs with Stasis weapon Kills

Hunter’s have been dealt a great hand when it comes to Arc 3.0, they have some great additions to their kit, with one of the main focuses being Gathering Storm, their new super. I am using Star-Eater Scales to beef it up even further through the perk Feast of Light, creating some incredible damage output which is going to melt bosses left, right and center.

The key element of this build are exotic boots called Star-Eater Scales. These boots were massively overpowered when they first came out in Season of the Splicer but were dialled back somewhat in the seasons after. Now, with the Arc 3.0 rework, they once again help give Hunters that huge damage boost. Star-Eater Scales enhances the damage of supers by picking up Orbs of Power and building up stacks of Feast of Light. If you can gather 8 stacks of Feast of Light, then your super can reach around 600,000 – 700,000 damage per super, which is going to blow away most enemies and take a huge chunk of health from bosses.

The build today doesn’t require much setup. The objective is to create a loop of gathering Feast of Light stacks. We used to be able to create orbs with masterworked weapons, although that has changed now, so you’ll have to put on Siphon Mods on your helmet armour. You can use Harmonic Siphon mods, which work when you are using the same element weapons and subclass (which we are doing here). That’s going to help you generate more orbs, and power up your super. Plus we’re boosting our intellect with Elemental Well mods to help regenerate our Supers faster, meaning more supers more of the time.

Also good for generating orbs is the Arc 3.0 fragment called Spark of Amplitude. This says “Rapidly defeating targets while you are amplified creates an Orb of Power”. We can get amplified nice and easy through Spark of Volts, and using finishers instantly makes us amplified. Therefore getting plenty of orbs is easy, plus you’ll be surrounded by teammates also generating orbs.

Let me know in the comments what you think of the build, and let me know if you have any improvements.
