Biggest DPS Hunter Solar 3.0 Build with Star-Eater Scales in Destiny 2

Hunters are top tier when it comes to Solar 3.0 builds, and when you combine the right aspects and fragments with exotic armour, then Hunters can become pretty much unstoppable in PVE. Today I am going to dive into a DPS build for Hunters through Solar 3.0, Star-Eater Scales, plus a combination of weapons and mods.

Blade Barrage has been fixed and it’s made a massive comeback. The Solar 3.0 rework has really helped this super find its place in the meta for Solar Hunters this season, plus a decent combination of aspects, fragments and exotic armour allows you to get some of the biggest DPS output per super in the game right now. Today we’re going to talk about that combination, so you can melt bosses in seconds.

The key element of this build is exotic boots called Star-Eater Scales. These boots were massively overpowered when they first came out in Season of the Splicer but were dialled back somewhat in the seasons after. Now, with the Solar 3.0 rework, they once again help give Hunters that huge damage boost. Star-Eater Scales enhances the damage of supers by picking up Orbs of Power and building up stacks of Feast of Light. If you can gather 8 stacks of Feast of Light, then your super can reach around 600,000 – 700,000 damage per super, which is going to blow away most enemies and take a huge chunk of health from bosses.

The build today doesn’t require much setup. The objective is to create a loop of gathering Feast of Light stacks. We used to be able to create orbs with masterworked weapons, although that has changed now, so you’ll have to put on Siphon Mods on your helmet armour. You can use Harmonic Siphon mods, which work when you are using the same element weapons and subclass (which we are doing here). That’s going to help you generate more orbs, and power up your super. Plus we’re boosting our intellect with Elemental Well mods to help regenerate our Supers faster, meaning more supers more of the time.

Hunter Solar 3.0 Build with Star-Eater Scales

Without further delay let’s have a look at the build.

Solar 3.0 Setup

Super – Blade Barrage
Class ability – Gambler’s Dodge, dodging near enemies recharges the melee ability.
Melee – Knife Trick, throw a fan of flaming knives that scorch targets on hit.
Grenade – Fusion Grenade

Aspects

Knock ‘Em Down – Blade Barrage launches more projectiles. While radiant, final blows with any equipped throwing knife fully refund melee energy.

On Your Mark – Precision final blows grant players and nearby allies increased weapon handling and reload speed for a short duration. Stacks three times. Activating the class ability immediately grants stacks of On Your Mark.

Fragments

  • Ember of Beams – Your Solar Super projectiles have stronger target acquisition.
  • Ember of Torches – Powered melee attacks against combatants make players and nearby allies radiant.
  • Ember of Solace – Radiant and restoration effects applied to players have increased duration.
  • Ember of Eruption – Your Solar ignitions have increased the area of effect.
  • Ember of Searing – Defeating scorched targets grants melee energy. Adds +10 Recovery.

Exotic Armour

Star-Eater Scales are Exotic Hunter Leg Armor introduced in Season of the Splicer. Let’s check out the main perk.

Feast of Light – You gain additional Super energy from Orbs of Power you pick up. While your Super energy is full, picking up an Orb of Power overcharges your Super, causing you to gain a burst of healing when cast and a bonus to your Super damage. At maximum overcharge, you also gain an over shield.

To get Star-Eater Scales you can get these from Legend and Master Lost Sectors on Leg Day when you run solo.

Weapons

Kinetic – Reckless Endangerment

Reckless Endangerment is a Legendary Kinetic Shotgun with a Lightweight Frame meaning it has superb handling. Move faster with this weapon equipped.

Energy – Drang

Drang is a Legendary Energy Sidearm. I have one with Incandescent which means Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius. This is going to help spread scorch even more and work great with this Solar 3.0 build.

Power – Gjallarhorn

Gjallarhorn is an Exotic Power Rocket Launcher that fires solar damage and it comes with some pretty special perks

Wolfpack Rounds – Rounds fired split into tracking cluster missiles upon detonation.
Pack Hunter – Gain increased handling and reload speed when standing near allies. Firing this weapon also grants Wolfpack Rounds to nearby allies wielding non-Exotic Rocket Launchers.

You can get this one by owning the 30th-anniversary pack and visiting Shaw Han on the Cosmodrome.

Mods

While players should prioritize high Mobility and Resilience stats for their Hunter, armour mods that create elemental wells, increase damage after picking up an elemental well, regenerate class and melee ability energy, and increase damage resistance is considered to be just as important.

Harmonic Siphon & Solar Siphon – helps generate Orbs of Power for powering up Star-Eater Scales.

I’m using some basic Elemental Well mods

  • Elemental Ordnance (2) – Defeating a combatant with a grenade spawns an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type.
  • Bountiful Wells – Elemental Well mods that cause you to spawn elemental wells can now stack, spawning additional wells for each additional copy of the mod you have equipped.
  • Seeking Wells – Get those wells to come to you
  • Font of Wisdom – Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants a temporary bonus to intellect to help recharge your super faster
  • Classy Restoration – Activating your Solar class abilities grants your restoration.
We’re creating elemental wells through our grenade kills and explosions. Bountiful Wells is going to give us more elemental wells for each instance of elemental ordnance we have, so every time we get a grande kill we’re getting two wells. Then we’re using Font of Might to boost our weapon damage, given we’re picking up Solar elemental wells.

Let me know what you think of the build in the comments, and let me know if you have any improvements.
