The Calus Mini-tool is by far the most popular weapon in Season of the Haunted. Today I am going to create a build with the Calus Mini-Tool at the centre, and this build is going to get you spreading fire and explosions all around you. Today I am going to check out the Calus Mini-Tool, plus put together a Solar 3.0 build, which is going to allow you to cause maximum destruction all over Destiny 2.
Before we get into the topic of today’s video, let me know in the comments what you think about Season of the Haunted. What are your top weapons, plus give me some of your top rolls.
The Calus Mini-Tool made its return to Destiny 2 this season, and it’s a very popular one. This is due to the weapon itself, but it’s also because of a new perk called Incandescent, this is where defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.
Scorch and Ignite are two new keywords related to solar 3.0, which essential mean damage over time, building up to Solar explosions. Scorch is a damage-over-time debuff which you can apply to enemies with Solar abilities (grenades, melee, super and some weapons and perks). Enemies can be scorched by solar damage, then it stacks, and enemies take damage over time. Ignite or Ignition is where enemies tally up enough stacks of scorch to trigger a large explosion.
This is great for massive ad clearing. We can use a combination of aspects and fragments in our solar 3.0 builds to maximise the effectiveness of our scorch and ignite, for example, Ember of Eruption, your Solar ignitions have increased area of effect or Ember of Blistering, defeating targets with Solar ignitions grants grenade energy. In short, we want to apply as much scorch as possible to ignite and explode as many enemies as possible and we’re going to do that by using The Calus Mini-Tool.
Looking closer at the Calus Mini-Tool the best roll out there at the moment is Corkscrew Rifling, Accurized Rounds, Grave Robber and Incandescent.
- Corkscrew Rifling – Slightly increases range and stability, Slightly increases handling speed
- Accurized Rounds – Increases range
- Grave Robber – Melee final blows reload this weapon’s magazine from reserves.
& Incandescent – Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.
We also have a new origin trait called “To Excess”. Final blows with the weapon, while your Super is full grant a bonus to strength and discipline for a moderate duration.
To get the Calus Mini-Tool in Season of the Haunted you’ll want to open up Opulent Chests on the Derelict Leviathan. These Opulent Chests are located around the Leviathan, however, you can’t open them without an Opulent Key. You get Opulent Keys by opening loot chests on the Derelict Leviathan, and also you can get these at the end of the Nightmare Containment activity. You can also craft the Calus Mini-Tool, but first of all you need the pattern. You’ll need five Deepsight Resonance versions (red border) and level them up to get the pattern for the weapon.
Let’s have a look at the build in some more detail.
Solar 3.0 setup
Super – Dawnblade
Grenade – Fusion Grenade
Class ability – Healing Rift
Melee – Incinerator Snap
Touch of Flame – Your Healing, Solar, Firebolt, and Fusion Grenades have enhanced functionality. Healing Grenade has improved cure and restoration, Solar Grenade increases linger duration and fires blobs of lava, Firebolt Grenade increases target search radius and count, and Fusion Grenade explodes twice.
Icarus Dash – Dodge quickly while airborne. While Heat Rises is active, you have an additional dodge. While airborne, rapidly defeating targets with your Super or weapon grants Cure to you. A golden feather, drifting in the wind. One gust carries you where you need to go.
- Ember of Char – Your Solar ignitions spread scorch to affected targets.
- Ember of Ashes – You apply more scorch stacks to targets.
- Ember of Eruption – Your Solar ignitions have increased the area of effect.
- Ember of Blistering – Defeating targets with Solar ignitions grants grenade energy.
Touch of Flame is allowing our fusion grenade to explode twice. The main thing we’re using here are our fragments, for example, ignitions spread scorch, so our explosions are going to scorch nearby targets through Ember of Char. Ashes allow us to apply more scorch to targets. Eruption increases the area of effect from our ignitions or solar explosions, and then Blistering grants us grande energy through our ignitions. Therefore, we’re maximising our scorch and ignitions from the area of effect and spread.
Dawn Chorus is an exotic Warlock Helmet.
Rites of Ember – Your Daybreak projectiles cause targets to scorch on contact. Your scorch effects deal more damage, and you gain a small amount of melee energy each time your scorch effects damage a target.
Our exotic armour allows us to deal more damage with our scorch stacks, plus we’re getting more melee back when dealing scorch damage, which allows us to scorch more through clicking our fingers with Incinerator Snap.
Kinetic – Silicon Neuroma
Silicon Neuroma is a Legendary Kinetic Sniper Rifle with an Aggressive Frame meaning high damage, high recoil. This adds some nice range to the build, given we’re focused on close up damage with the Calus Mini-Tool. You could also swap this out for a good fusion rifle, like Riptide or Burden of Guilt.
Energy – Calus Mini-tool
Calus Mini-Tool is a Legendary Energy Submachine Gun meaning it has superb handling. Move faster with this lightweight weapon equipped. I have one with Incandescent which means Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius. This is going to help spread scorch even more.
Power – Gjallarhorn
Gjallarhorn is an Exotic Power Rocket Launcher that fires solar damage and it comes with some pretty special perks
Wolfpack Rounds – Rounds fired split into tracking cluster missiles upon detonation.
Pack Hunter – Gain increased handling and reload speed when standing near allies. Firing this weapon also grants Wolfpack Rounds to nearby allies wielding non-Exotic Rocket Launchers.
You can get this one by owning the 30th anniversary pack and visiting Shaw Han on the Cosmodrome.
I’m using some basic Elemental Well mods
- Elemental Ordnance (2) – Defeating a combatant with a grenade spawns an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type.
- Bountiful Wells – Elemental Well mods that cause you to spawn elemental wells can now stack, spawning additional wells for each additional copy of the mod you have equipped.
- Explosive Wellmaker – Rapidly defeating combatants with explosive damage spawns a Solar elemental well.
- Font of Might – Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants a temporary bonus to weapon damage of that same elemental type.
We’re creating elemental wells through our grenade kills and explosions. Bountiful Wells is going to give us more elemental wells for each instance of elemental ordnance we have, so every time we get a grande kill we’re getting two wells. Then we’re using Font of Might to boost our weapon damage, given we’re picking up Solar elemental wells.
Let me know what you think of the build in the comments, and let me know if you have any improvements.
