How to get the Calus Mini-Tool (Submachine Gun) Plus God Roll Guide in Destiny 2

The Calus Mini-Tool is back in Destiny 2, this time it’s new and improved given we have the chance to have the new perk Incandescent on it. This is a great submachine gun, plus it’s the 900 rounds per minute SMG type that is very popular right now. Today I am going to check out the stats the perks, the god rolls to chase for PVE and PVP, plus look at how to get the Calus Mini-Tool in Destiny 2.

Calus Mini-Tool is a Legendary Energy Submachine Gun meaning it has superb handling. Move faster with this lightweight weapon equipped. This weapon grants additional speed benefits when MIDA Multi-Tool is also equipped. Looking at the stats we have Impact 15, Range 30, Stability 49, Handling 65, Reload Speed 31, Rounds Per Minute 900, and Magazine 37.

The Calus Mini-Tool is a very good SMG inside Destiny 2, part of the Opulent weapon set that has returned in Season of the Haunted. As well as being a great SMG itself, it also has synergy with Mida Multi-tool, the exotic scout rifle. You’ll get additional speed if you have the Exotic Scout Rifle equipped too. Even without the partnership with Mida, the Calus Mini-tool is an excellent submachine gun and is getting a lot of Guardians excited… especially given it’s a Solar Submachine Gun, meaning it’s going to be great for those Solar 3.0 builds.

Calus Mini-Tool God Roll Guide

For PVE Arrowhead Brake, Tactical Mag, Threat Detector and Surrounded would be a decent roll.

  • Arrowhead Brake – Greatly controls recoil, increases handling speed
  • Tactical Mag – Slightly increases stability, increases reload speed, slightly increases magazine size
  • Threat Detector – Increased reload, stability and handling when enemies are in close proximity
  • Surrounded – This weapon gains bonus damage when three or more enemies are in close proximity

For PVP Corkscrew Rifling, Accurized Rounds, Moving Target and Incandescent would be a good roll.

  • Corkscrew Rifling – Slightly increases range and stability, Slightly increases handling speed
  • Accurized Rounds – Increases range
  • Moving Target – Increased movement speed and target acquisition when moving while aiming down sights.
  • Incandescent – Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.

We also have a new origin trait called “To Excess”. Final blows with the weapon, while your Super is full grant a bonus to strength and discipline for a moderate duration.

How to get the Calus Mini-Tool

To get Calus Mini-Tool in Season of the Haunted you’ll want to open up Opulent Chests on the Derelict Leviathan. These Opulent Chests are located around the Leviathan, however, you can’t open them without an Opulent Key. You get Opulent Keys by opening loot chests on the Derelict Leviathan, and also you can get these at the end of the Nightmare Containment activity.

Once you have an Opulent Key, you then have to inspect the key to find the clue for the location of the chest. Your key only opens a specific chest, not all Opulent Chests. For example, I had a key saying “Pleasure Gardens, Guarded by a loyal companion”. As part of the clue, you’ll always get a location which will tell you which region on the Leviathan to explore, then you’ll have a vague line as to the specific location. With the “at the feet of greatness”, we have a statue of Calus in the Royal Pools, and at his feet, there is the chest.

When you open the Opulent Chests, you’ll have a chance at getting Calus Mini-Tool. The loot pool for the Opulent chests is quite small; there are 4 rewards overall including Austringer Hand Cannon, Beloved Sniper, Calus Mini Tool Submachine Gun and Drang Sidearm.

You can also craft Opulent weapons, but first of all you need the pattern. When you get the weapon from the Opulent chest, there is a chance it’ll have a red border and you’ll get a Deepsight Resonance version. Once you get one of these you’ll need to use it to level it up and then extract the Resonant Element, which gives you progress towards the weapon pattern. You’ll need five Deepsight Resonance weapons and level them up to get the pattern for the weapon.

The Crown of Sorrow found in the H.E.L.M. offers some upgrades that will help players get Deepsight weapons quicker, for example, you get certain guarantees you’ll get Deepsight Resonance weapons from the first time you open an Opulent Chest. Unfortunately, these bonuses aren’t available until the third and fifth week of the season.
