How to get New Purpose (Legendary Fusion Rifle) Plus God Roll Guide in Destiny 2

New Purpose is a Pulse Rifle added to Destiny 2 as part of Season of the Haunted. This is the first new Pulse Rifle we’ve had that rolls with Desperado since Messenger, which makes it VERY rare, meaning it’s going to shoot to the top of the charts for most-desirable weapons this season. Today I am going to check out the weapon, look at the stats and the perks, the god rolls to chase for PVE and PVP plus look at how to get New Purpose in Destiny 2.

New Purpose is a High-Impact Frame Pulse Rifle meaning it’s slow-firing and high-damage. This weapon is more accurate when stationary and aiming down sights. New Purpose also deals stasis damage. Looking at the stats we have 33 for impact, 68 for range, 64 for stability, 21 for handling, 31 for reload speed. It’s a 340 Rounds per minute Pulse Rifle with 33 in the magazine.

New Purpose, as well as the other 3 new weapons in the Dungeon, come with the Origin Trait Bitterspite. While the weapon is equipped, taking damage accelerates its next reload. This is going to be good for bosses, where often you’ll be taking plenty of damage, and having that quick reload is going to help you get out of trouble.

New Purpose God Roll Guide

We don’t have all the info available yet for New Purpose, light.gg hasn’t updated with all the available rolls, so I’ve been looking through Reddit to check out possible combinations.

3rd Slot – Perpetual Motion, Feeding Frenzy, Tunnel Vision, Steady Hands, Adaptive Munitions
4th Slot – Desperado, Vorpal Weapon, Disruption Break, Headstone

Personally, I got Feeding Frenzy and Desperado. Definitely happy to get Desperado, although it’d be interesting to see if Outlaw or Rapid Hit can roll on this weapon. For the info we know about at the moment I would go with something like this.

For PVE Arrowhead Brake, High-Calibre Rounds, Feeding Frenzy and Desperado.

  • Arrowhead Brake – Greatly controls recoil, Increases handling speed
  • High-Caliber Rounds – Slightly increases range.
  • Feeding Frenzy – Each rapid kill with this weapon progressively increases reload speed for a short time.
  • Desperado – Reloading after a precision final blow increases your rate of fire.

Outlaw and Kill Clip would be another decent roll, but again, we need the full info to understand what this weapon can roll with. For now, if you get Desperado, then I think you’re one step ahead of the competition with this weapon, given the sheer power of this perk.

For PVP Corkscrew Rifling, Richochet Rounds, Perpetual Motion and Desperado.

  • Corkscrew Rifling – Slightly increases range and stability, Slightly increases handling speed
  • Ricochet Rounds – Increases stability, Slightly increases range
  • Perpetual Motion – This weapon gains bonus stability, handling, and reload speed while the wielder is in motion.
  • Desperado – Reloading after a precision final blow increases your rate of fire.

This is comparable to Messenger, which was probably the best PVP High-Calibre Pulse Rifle, until it was removed from the game at the end of season 16 from the Trials loot pool. This could be a good replacement, although New Purpose would be improved IF it can roll with Rapid Hit instead of Perpetual Motion.

Let me know in the comments what you got, and what your favourite roll is.

How to get New Purpose

To get this one you will have to run the Duality Dungeon, recently added as part of Season of the Haunted. I got this one to drop for me from the final boss. In the previous Dungeon, we’ve had a loot table, where specific loot drops from specific bosses. I’ve seen a few people say they got the Pulse Rifle from the final boss, so if you are going after the New Purpose Pulse Rifle specifically then the final boss may be your best chance. I’ll update down in the comments once we have more info on the loot table.

The good news with the Duality Dungeon is you can farm this Dungeon right from day one. This means you can go in time and time again, and you’ll get loot as a reward. Previously in Dungeons loot has been locked per week, but this one is different, meaning you’ll hopefully have all the Duality Dungeon loot you want very soon.
