Season of the Risen

How to get Secant Filaments (Exotic Warlock Legs) Plus Void Warlock PVE Build

Secant Filaments are new Warlock Exotic boots, and they go perfectly with Void builds in the Witch Queen Expansion. Today I am going to dive into the Secant Filaments, why they are good, how to get them, plus look at a void Warlock build with Secant Filaments.

Secant Filaments

Secant Filaments are Exotic Warlock Leg Armor and they come with the perk Devouring Rift.

Devouring Rift – Casting an empowering rift will grant you Devour. Damage dealt by you and your allies from within your empowering rift will disrupt combatants.

Quick reminder about Devour, while Devour is active, final blows restore health and extend Devour. The major benefit here is you have an empowering Rift, which as a reminder increases weapon damage for those inside it. Therefore, given you can activate Devour you can increase damage and restore health at the same time.

Next, let’s have a look at how to these Exotic Boots.

How to get Secant Filaments

Secant Filaments is one of the newer Exotic pieces of armor introduced in the Witch Queen DLC (specifically Season of the Risen). Previous to Beyond Light and these newer armor pieces being introduced, Exotic armor was acquired at random through Exotic engrams or campaign story content.

Now, there’s a way to target farm Exotic armor pieces through Legend and Master Lost Sectors. If you complete these activities solo, then there’s a chance at the Exotic armor to drop for you. Every day the Legend and Master Lost Sectors rotate, with two available each day across the planets and moons.

As well as the location for Legend and Master Lost Sectors rotating, the rewards rotate too with different armor pieces for the head, arms, chest, and legs. If you want to check the location and the rewards, then you can do so in-game by completing the Lost Sectors on the regular difficulty, and then check on the map. The Legend and Master Lost sectors are indicated as a blue shield icon. Another good way to check is a great tool called todayindestiny.com. This will quickly tell you what the location is, plus what the reward is.

To get Secant Filaments, you want to look out for the Exotic Chest Reward. Then if you complete the Legend or Master Lost Sector Solo, you’ll have a chance for that reward. If you don’t get it the first time, keep trying and you’ll get it after a few tries.

Secant Filaments Warlock PVE build

Subclass – Void

  • Class Ability – Empowering Rift
  • Super – Any
  • Grenade – Vortex Grenade

The only one you have to use is the Empowering Rift, as that is a pre-requisite for Secant Filaments. Vortex grenades are good, as we’re going to use Chaos Accelerant to enhance them.

Aspects

Child of the Old Gods – Cast your Rift to summon a Void Soul. When you damage an enemy with your weapon, your Void Soul will launch itself towards them and detonate nearby, attaching draining tendrils, which deal damage and weaken the target. When your Void Soul deals damage, it restores either melee and grenade energy (if running Healing Rift) or health (if running Empowering Rift) back to you. Defeating an enemy who is being drained grants Rift energy.

Chaos Accelerant – Hold down the grenade button to overcharge your Vortex, Axion Bolt, Scatter, and Magnetic grenades. Magnetic grenades overcharge into Handheld Supernova.

Fragments

  • Echo of Explusion – Void ability kills cause enemies to explode. Plus an Intellect bonus.
  • Echo of Undermining – Void grenades weaken enemies. Plus a Discipline penalty.
  • Echo of Exchange – Melee final blows grant grenade energy.

Exotic Armour

We’re using the Secant Filaments, as this is the focus of the guide.

Weapons

Reckless Endangerment (Shotgun)

Reckless Endangerment is a Legendary Kinetic Shotgun with a Lightweight Frame meaning it has superb handling. Move faster with this weapon equipped. Reckless Endangerment is a static roll weapon and it comes fully masterworked already, plus it has a great choice of perks, which you can mix and match to suit most playstyles.

  • Perpetual Motion – This weapon gains bonus stability, handling, and reload speed while the wielder is in motion
  • Steady Hands – Kills provide improved handling for all weapons for a short duration
  • Swashbuckler – This weapon gains increased damage from melee kills and kills with this weapon or
  • Snapshot sights – Faster time to aim down sights

You can get this one by getting to rank 16 at a playlist vendor like Zavala, Drifter and Lord Shaxx.

Collective Obligation (Pulse Rifle)

Collective Obligation is an Exotic Energy Pulse Rifle.

  • Void Leech – This weapon leeches Void debuffs when damaging targets that are suppressed, weakened, or volatile. Once charged, [Alternate Weapon Action] to swap firing modes. In this mode, damage from this weapon applies the same Void debuffs that were leeched.
  • Umbral Sustenance – This weapon’s magazine is automatically reloaded when you gain Devour, a Void overshield, or become invisible.

You can get this one from the Vow of the Disciple Raid as a random drop from the final boss. If you don’t have access to this one you can swap it out for another Energy Void Weapon, like Funnel Web (SMG) or The Enigma (Glaive).

Threaded Needle (Linear Fusion Rifle)

This is another void weapon, again, boost super or damage. Linear Fusions got a blanket 10% buff, plus given it’s a void weapon its going to work well with mods.

Mods

  • Volatile Flow – Picking up a Void elemental well grants your Void weapons Volatile rounds.
  • Void Siphon – Rapid Void weapon final blows create an Orb of Power.
  • Elemental Ordnance – Defeating a combatant with a grenade spawns an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type.
  • Font of Might – Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants a temporary bonus to weapon damage of that same elemental type.
  • Reaping Wellmaker – After activating your class ability, your next weapon final blow on a combatant spawns a Void elemental well.
  • Insulation – Reduces class ability cooldown each time you pick up an Orb of Power.
  • Bountiful Wells – Elemental well mods that cause you to spawn elemental wells can now stack, spawning additional wells for each additional copy of the mod you have equipped.

There’s a fair amount going on here. The TL;DR is Explosions and Damage increase.

What we’re trying to do here is create Void Elemental Wells with a few mods like Elemental Ordnance, Reaping Wellmaker and Bountiful Wells. This is going to help us create an abundance of Void Elemental Wells, which we’re then going to use for a couple of purposes.

We’re using Elemental Wells to bolster our damage output through two main mods – Volatile Flow and Font of Might. Volatile Flow is going to grant Volatile Rounds for our Void Weapons, which is going to help us explode enemies. Then we have Font of Might, and that’s going to give us a temporary boost to weapon damage.

Gameplay

In terms of bringing the build together, here’s what we’re looking for.

  • Void Elemental Wells – We’re going be creating a bunch of elemental wells, primary to bolster damage through our mod selection
  • Improving Damage – We’re going to have our Empowering Rift which is going to improve damage. Font of Might is also going to work well here to improve damage
  • Explosions – We’re going to be using Volatile Flow and also one of our Fragments, Echo of Explusion, where void ability kills cause enemies to explode.

Overall, I’m impressed with the boots, and I’m going to play around with some other builds. I’d have a look at swappign out the weapons and the elemental well mods to see what works for you.

I’d love to hear what you think of Secant Filaments plus let me know your builds in the comments.
