Grand Overture is a new Exotic Machine Gun added to Destiny 2 as part of Season of the Risen. We’ve spent years fighting against the Cabal Colossus, well now it’s time to fight back with one of their own weapons. Today I am going to check out Grand Overture in more detail, I’ll go through the perks, how to get the weapon, how to get the catalyst, and level it up quickly, so you can take the fight to the hive this season in Destiny 2.
First of all, let’s have a closer look at this weapon.
Grand Overture is an Exotic Power Machine Gun and it comes with the perks
- Wrath of the Colossus – Heavy slug launcher that charges, then fires full auto while the trigger is held.
- Omega Strike – Land hits with the slug launcher to load missiles, and then fire to launch all missiles in a single volley.
The regular firing mode is powered by the Wrath of the Colossus, meaning you can hold down the trigger and you’ll autofire a continuous volley of shots until you run out of ammo. If you want to up the ante, then hold down the key or button to trigger the alternative firing mode and you’ll launch an Omega Strike, this is a bunch of small missiles that all fire at once. If you ever dreamed about being a Cabal Colossus, then this is going to be the weapon for you.
How to get Grand Overture
To get this Exotic Power Machine gun, it’s pretty simple, all you need to do is get it from the season pass as part of the Season 16 rewards. If you are a free-to-play player, then you’ll get this at rank 35 on the season pass. If you own the season pass for Season of the Risen, then you’ll be able to unlock it immediately.
How to get the Grand Overture Catalyst Quest
Once you have picked up the Grand Overture machine gun, then go over to Banshee-44 in the Tower and pick up the quest for the Catalyst. He should have a marker on him indicating quest is waiting to be picked up. Speak to Banshee-44 and grab the quest, it’s called Heavy Does it.
How to complete the ‘Heavy Does It’ Quest
You can unlock faster progress through the quest if you have the season pass. It’s not necessary, but it’s worth bearing in mind if you really want to get that catalyst. At rank 11 on the season pass, you’ll get a Catalyst Quest Boost Alpha which will double progress, then at rank 22, you’ll get Catalyst Quest Boost Omega, which quadruples it.
There are three steps to this quest. Let’s dive into them.
Step 1 – Defeat enemies
Defeat 50 Cabal
Defeat 50 targets with power weapons
Rapidly defeat 15 targets
If you picked this up before the Witch Queen campaign then this one should be nice and easy, as you get rally banners everywhere which is going to fill up your ammo. You could always replay the missions if you have done it, but one thing I like to do with heavy weapons is go into Dares of Eternity and get the Starhorse Favor bonus, meaning you have infinite heavy ammo. This is going to be a nice and easy way to complete this step of the quest.
Step 2 – Complete activities and defeat enemies
Complete 200 activities
Defeat targets 0%
The first step is going to take a while, this is 200 strikes, crucible, or gambit matches. Crucible is probably the quickest way to do this, although you could do it passively over the season. You do earn additional progress for Gambit wins and Nightfall completions, but they are likely going to take you the time. This really is where the season pass boost bonuses come in handy to speed things up.
The second part of the step is much easier, you just have to raise that bar to 100% by defeating targets with Grand Overture. Campaign missions, Lost Sectors, Strikes, these are great activities here to complete this step.
Step 3 – Speak to Banshee-44
For the final step of the quest simply head back to Banshee-44 and speak to him and he’ll give you the Grand Overture Catalyst.
How to level up the Grand Overture Catalyst
Much like other catalysts in the game to level this one up you are going to need to get 400 kills with the weapon. You do this in a number of locations. Campaign missions are going to be good because of the banners, there are also Dares of Eternity with the Star Horses Favour. The Dungeon on the Cosmodrome is also good, or you can go to Altars of Sorrow on the Moon or the Blind Well on the Dreaming City. The Shruo Chi location in the Last Wish raid is the classic location for catalysts, just look up the Wishing Wall and Wish four to teleport you to the right place. Ideally, you want to be somewhere solo otherwise other Guardians could steal your kills.
What the Grand Overture Catalyst Does
The catalyst is very good as it’ll give you +20 Stability and +20 handling. Missile explosions also blind opponents. Also, enemies defeated by missiles explode.
We’d had some great seasonal weapons before like Witherhoard and Duality… but Grand Overture has the potential to be right up there. It’s got a huge impact and is great for DPS, plus you have the alternate firing mode too.
