How to get The Huckleberry (Exotic Submachine Gun) Plus Catalyst in Destiny 2

The Huckleberry is a fun exotic weapon. It’s got a beautiful design, plus it’s a beast of a submachine gun that allows you to rip and tear through enemies with absolute ease. It’s a classic exotic weapon in terms of Destiny 2, but today I am going to look at it in slightly more detail. I’m going to look at the perks, how to get the weapon, plus how to get the catalyst and charge it up nice and quickly, so you can get the most out of The Huckleberry in Destiny 2.

First of all today let’s have a look at the weapon in a little more detail.

The Huckleberry

The Huckleberry is an Exotic Kinetic Submachine Gun. This is one of the most fun exotics in the game, and it comes with some devastating perks which include.

Ride the Bull – Increased rate of fire and recoil while you’re holding down the trigger. Kills with this weapon reload a portion of the magazine.

Rampage – Kills with this weapon temporarily grant increased damage. Stacks 3x.

This is a Tex Mechanica weapon, one of only a few in the game alongside Dead Man’s Tale and Last Word. Submachine Guns are about to get a boost as we go into The Witch Queen, and this is already a strong submachine gun.

It’s not confirmed yet, but I imagine next season we’re going to get artifact mods related to submachine guns, given the Osteo Striga is coming, and Bungie normally backs up their DLC exotics with artifact mods. In any case, even without these The Huckleberry is one of the most effective mob clearing weapons in the game, and is very useful for PVE builds for all classes.

How to get The Huckleberry

To get The Huckleberry it’s a random drop from world drop exotic engrams. You can find these out there in the wild, or as rewards from the end of playlist activities like strikes, gambit and cruicble. One effective way to get these are from Nightfalls, and the higher level the nightfall the more likely you are to get exotic rewards.

Xur also sells The Huckleberry from time to time, so it’s worth checking out his inventory each week. Also, pick up the exotic engram from Xur as he has exotic weapon protection. This means Xur is going to prioritise exotic weapons you haven’t got. The exotic engram is expensive, but if you are only missing one or two, then it’s worth picking up the engram to help you fill in your gaps in your exotic collection.

How to get The Huckleberry Catalyst

You can get the Huckleberry Catalyst from strikes, cruicble and gambit, and it’s a random drop from the end of these activities. You don’t have to be using the Huckleberry, just have it in your inventory. Given it’s down to RNG to get this one, it’s probably best to have a few othr objectives in mind while farming for it.

What The Huckleberry Catalyst Does

The Huckleberry Catalyst has a single perk and that’s called Bull Rider where obtaining a kill with this weapon will reload the entire magazine instantly. The regular Huckleberry only has a magazine size of 37, which does feel limiting when it comes to using this weapon. With the catalyst perk, it’s almost like having infinite ammo, which makes this much more appealing when running through PVE content.

How to level up The Huckleberry Catalyst

To complete the catalyst you need to get kills with The Huckleberry. You can do this in a number of places in the game, ideally where there are a lot of enemies.

I think the best place to go is the Shuro Chi location in the Last Wish Raid. To get there quickly you can enter wish 4 at the wishing wall, and teleport to the Shuro Chi location. Once you are there you can use The Huckleberry to kill hundreds of Taken in minutes, also you can use raid banners to replenish your heavy ammo. You can also head to the Thrallway location in the Shattered Throne Dungeon.

There’s a new farming location added to the game too, with the start of the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon. Here you have multiple enemies, constantly respawning, which makes it nice and easy to power up catalysts. Once you have killed the required amount of enemies, the catalyst will complete and you’ll be able to apply it to The Huckleberry.

Let me know in the comments what you think of The Huckleberry, and if it’s something you are going to be using going into the next expansion.
