How Festival of the Lost 2021 Works in Destiny 2 Season of the Lost

Festival of the Lost has arrived in Destiny 2, and this year has been shrouded in mystery. This is the annual Destiny 2 seasonal event to celebrate Halloween, and this year we have Haunted Sectors, Dinosaur armor, plus loads of cosmetics and other loot to get. Today I’m going to run through how Festival of the Lost 2021 works, how to get started, and what to do, so you can make the most of Festival of the Lost 2021.

How to get started in Festival of the Lost 2021

First, you’ll want to head to the Tower and speak to Eva, she’s our regular Seasonal Vendor in Destiny 2 and arrives in the Tower for a few weeks for the event. She’ll give you some information about Festival of the Lost, and then send you on an introduction mission.

Festival of the Lost is free for all players. However, new players must first meet the following requirements:

  • Escape the Cosmodrome to unlock the Tower.

Once new players have met the above requirements, they can speak to Eva Levante in the Tower Courtyard to receive a quest. After this quest has been completed, players will be granted access to explore Haunted Lost Sectors and can earn Festival of the Lost rewards.

During Festival of the Lost, Eva Levante offers 6 masks that players may purchase for Candy. Furthermore, masks earned during previous Festival of the Lost events can also be equipped by players who earned them. All masks must be equipped as ornaments on the Masquerader’s Helmet, which is offered by Eva Levante for 100 Glimmer. The masks are Eramis, Sweeper Bot, Ada-1, Honk Moon, Pyramid, and Taniks.

Haunted Sectors

This year Bungie has done away with the Haunted Forest, and instead, we have Haunted Sectors, which are modified Lost Sectors.

An Exo and a Vex Mind have merged to become something… new, a Guardian on Nessus is being hunted for their Ghost, and headless creatures prowl through the dark chasms of the Moon. Grab your favorite mask, join a fireteam, and embark on three new tales of terror. Glint is going to be involved, plus we have Hive Summoning Circles in the Haunted Sectors and they spawn enemies called ‘Headless Ones’.

In order to launch into Haunted Lost Sectors after they have been unlocked, players must select the Haunted Lost Sector node in the Tower destination map. Additionally, players may launch directly into the matchmade Haunted Lost Sector from the Tower Courtyard by interacting with the Haunted Sector mission totem next to Eva Levante.

Loot & Rewards

We have an array of loot to chase in Festival of the Lost 2021.

Dino Armour

One of the main draws for Festival of the Lost is the cosmetic items, and this year is no different. We know about the Dino armor, which can either be brought with silver or Bright dust, although I think it’s going to set you back around 6,000 bright dust per set.

Earlier in the year, the Destiny community played a major hand in solving an impossible choice Bungie needed to make. And although the slugfest was spirited, in the end, it was the bellowing roar of dino-victory that rang triumphantly through the streets of the Last City.

Jurassic Green (Pulse Rifle)

This is a new weapon for the event, and I’ll be back once I get my hands on it to report on the best rolls for the new pulse rifle.

Horror Story (Auto Rifle)

Horror Story is a Legendary Kinetic Auto Rifle with a Precision Frame meaning the weapon’s recoil pattern is more predictably vertical.

PVP: Killing Wind, Slideways
PVE: Subsistence, Demolitionist

Braytech Werewolf (Auto Rifle)

Braytech Werewolf Legendary Kinetic Auto Rifle with a Precision Frame meaning this weapon’s recoil pattern is more predictably vertical.

PVP: Dynamic Sway Reduction, Tap the Trigger
PVE: Fourth Time’s the Charm, Unrelenting

There’s also the ghost shell, which Bungie has collaborated with an external designer Bungie called Luis Yepez. He’s created a great-looking Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, Calavera Ghost Shell. There’s plenty of other cosmetics available too, and you can check out the Eververse Store and get your hands on that loot.

Once players unlock access to Haunted Lost Sectors, they can purchase bounties, masks, and other Festival of the Lost rewards from Eva Levante. Masks and rewards may be purchased using Candy, which can be earned by defeating enemies and completing activities during Festival of the Lost while a mask is equipped.

Festival Bounties

During Festival of the Lost, Eva Levante offers Festival Bounties that can reward players with XP, Bright Dust, Glimmer, and Candy.

Book of the Forgotten

This year’s Festival of the Lost also brings a new vendor, the Book of the Forgotten. The Book of the Forgotten contains new lore, which can be purchased with Manifested Pages. Manifested Pages are created from Spectral Pages, which are earned in Haunted Lost Sectors, and are created by defeating Headless Ones in Haunted Lost Sectors. Manifested Pages can also be obtained from chests at the end of Haunted Lost Sectors.

How Festival of the Lost works

  • Have a chat with Eva to get started and pick up a mask
  • Put on the mask
  • Launch into a Haunted Lost Sector node from the Tower
  • Gather as much candy as possible
  • Purchase bounties, masks and rewards from Eva Levante in the Tower
  • Make sure you keep the mask on to ear candy in Festival of the Lost
