How to get Ager’s Scepter (Exotic Trace Rifle) and completing A Hollow Coronation quest

Ager’s Scepter is a new Exotic Trace Rifle added to Destiny 2 as part of Season of the Lost. This is a new stasis weapon and synergizes really well with Stasis builds, plus along the way you get some great lore detailing the relationship between Mara and Uldren Sov (now Crow), plus you get to explore one of the best environments in the game in the Dreaming City. Today, I am going to go over all the quest steps for completing A Hollow Coronation, so you can get your hands on Ager’s Scepter as soon as possible.

There are a couple of pre-requisites for picking up the quest ‘A Hollow Coronation’, and this ultimately leads to getting Ager’s Scepter. First of all, you need to have the season pass for Season of the Lost. Then you need to have completed the quests Tracing the Stars I, II, and III. To be able to complete all of the Tracing the Stars quests, you’ll also need to complete the weekly Wayfinder’s Voyage steps I to VI. This can be done by going to the H.E.L.M. and checking in at The Wayfinders Compass.

Tracing the Stars was a weekly quest, where you have to go out and explore the Dreaming City and pick up markers called Astral Skews. To help with this, I’ll put the guides for Tracing the Stars I, II, and III at the end so if you missed out on those weekly quests, you can get those done quickly and get into the Hollow Coronation quest.

Once you’ve done the prerequisites, then it’s time to start the main quest for Ager’s Scepter.

How to complete A Hollow Coronation

Step 1 – Pick up A Hollow Coronation quest at the H.E.L.M.

Once you have completed Tracing the Stars I, II, and III then head to the Wayfinders Compass in the HELM and pick up the Exotic Quest. You will know you have picked up the right one because it will indicate Ager’s Scepter as the reward.

Step 2 – Speak to Mara Sov

Now you have the quest, turn around and head up the stairs and through the portal and then speak to Mara Sov. She’ll give you a little more story and context about Ager’s Scepter. She’ll send you on another fetch quest for Atlas Skews, this time in an Area called The Confluence. Once you finish your chat with Mara, make your way to The Dreaming City and land in the Divilian Mists.

Step 3 – Find Astral Skews in The Confluence

From the Divilian Mists you want to find your way to the Confluence. There are some portals found in hidden locations on the Dreaming City. From the landing point in the Divilian Mists I went to The Spire of Keres, and the portal can be found in front of the big building, down to the right in a cave. Jump on your sparrow, head to the middle of Divilian Mists, and then go left. Jump over the gaps, kill or avoid the Taken and then jump down to the right and find that portal.

Once you are through the portal it’s simply a matter of finding the Astral Skews. The Confluence area isn’t too big, and the Astral Skews are fairly easy to find. However, I’ll show you here how to find each Astral Skew and once you’ve done that it’s time to jump onto the next step of the quest.

Step 4 – Go to A Hollow Coronation in the H.E.L.M.

Now you have the final Astral Skews, you can head to A Hollow Coronation location found in the H.E.L.M. and place them at the marker. This will open up a portal to somewhere called Caliburn Gatehouse. Jump through the portal and you’ll find Ager’s Scepter. However, at the moment you won’t be able to pick it up, because you will have triggered a defense system and you’ll see it’s surrounded by a force field. The next few steps are about collecting items to help break that field, so you can pick up the weapon.

Step 5 – Collect Parallax Trajectory and Defeat Combatants in Astral Alignment with Rifles

There are a couple of steps here – collecting Parallax Trajectory and defeating combatants in Astral Alignment with rifles. For collecting Parallax Trajectory you can pretty much gather these from any activity, strikes, the crucible, gambit, and by killing combatants. Each week the location for Ascendant Anchors rotates on locations including the EDZ, Tangled Shore, and The Moon. I went to the EDZ and picked up four Anchors, giving me 120 in total. However, you could just as easily complete a strike, however, picking up the Anchors is going to be the quickest way to get this done.

For defeating combatants in Astral Alignment, jump into the activity on the Dreaming City and use Rifles. This can be Pulse, Scout, Sniper, Fusion, Trace, Linear Fusion… there are plenty of Rifles in the game, just don’t use shotguns, hand cannons and rockets. Anything with a Rifle in the name will give you the kills you need.

Step 6 – Super and Champion Kills in Astral Alignment

Next up, it’s more Astral Alignment, and this time you will need to get 18 Champion Kills and 20 Kills with your super. There’s plenty of Champions roaming about the place, so keep your eyes peeled for Champions and try to kill as many as possible. It took me a couple of Astral Alignment runs to get this done. For the Super Kills, try and use a roaming super, this helps to get multiple kills per super. To get this done efficiently you want to be getting multiple kills per super. Also, you can add mods to help get your super back faster including Elemental Well mods including Font of Wisdom. Once you have the kills you need, it’s time to move onto the next step.

Step 7 – Collect Strands of Nobility

Next up you have to complete 3 strikes – The Lake of Shadows on the EDZ, The Disgraced on the Cosmodrome and The Glassway on Europa. Each strike can be selected from the Director and you hop into the strike. Once you defeat the boss in each strike, it’ll then drop one Strand of Nobility each. You don’t need to explore or do anything special in the strike, just run through as fast as possible and defeat the boss.

Step 8 – Speak to Mara Sov in the H.E.L.M.

Now you have gathered all the items to unlock Ager’s Scepter it’s time to head back to speak to Mara and pick up The Noble Seal. Once you have the Noble Seal, then select A Hollow Coronation from the director and make your way to Ager’s Scepter to pick it up.

Once you have picked up Ager’s Scepter, use it to destroy the sparkling rocks, and here you’ll find the followers of Xivu Arath. This is a good time to use Ager’s Scepter and has some fun killing the Hive.

Ager’s Scepter

Ager’s Scepter is an Exotic Kinetic Trace Rifle that has some very interesting perks, and this synergizes really well with Stasis builds. Let’s check out the perks:

  • Ager’s Call – Final blows with this weapon generate a slowing burst around the defeated target.
  • Rega’s Refrain – Stasis final blows transfer ammo to this weapon’s magazine from reserves.

Looking at the stats we have Impact 6, Range 72, Stability 81, Handling 57, Reload Speed 60, Rounds Per Minute 1000, and Magazine 97.

Ager’s Scepter Catalyst

At the time of creating this guide the catalyst isn’t available yet, but we don’t have long to wait as this is going to be added to the game on September 21st, and you’ll be able to get this from the Astral Alignment activity by opening the Wayfinders Troves at the end (these are the chests on the right hand side).

The perk for the catalyst is:

“Drain Super energy, overflowing the magazine and empowering the beam with bonus damage and the ability to slow and freeze targets until the magazine or Super energy runs out, or the weapon is stowed. Can only be activated when Super energy is full.”

It looks like a very interesting catalyst, so I would get hold of Agers Scepter as soon as you can.

Let me know what you think of Ager’s Scepter down in the comments, and share any good stasis builds you have made with the community.
