Bungie has outlined some of their improvements to the sandbox in season 15, which includes a range of improvements to light subclasses. One, in particular, middle-tree void Warlock is getting a huge buff in PVE, which is going to see this subclass tree shoot up to the top choice of many Warlocks in Season 15. Today I am going to check out a Voidwalker Warlock PVE build using Contraverse Hold and the Attunement of Fission.
First of all, let’s check out the changes outlined by Bungie in their update on 5th August 2021.
Through a mix of player feedback, data, and running through some high-level PvE content, we felt the Nova Warp Super needed some attention. Buffing Nova Warp is a dangerous endeavor though, and we’ll be monitoring to make sure we didn’t overdo it.
In PvE, Handheld Supernova was doing a pitiful amount of damage, so we’ve considerably increased its damage output, especially considering the time and proximity cost you’re paying to charge it up and get within range of an enemy. We’ve also increased the hold time after charging to give you more time to throw it before it vanishes.
Increased damage vs. PvE combatants by 73%.
No longer slows movement speed while charging/charged.
Now detonates on cast.
Increased damage vs. PvE combatants by 100%.
Increased hold time from 2.5 seconds to 3.2 seconds.
Warlock PVE Build
This is going to focus on the changes coming, combined with Exotic armor, Exotic weapons, and mods
Attunement of Fission
This is a widely underused subclass at the moment, but that’s all going to change on 24th August 2021.
Let’s check out the subclass abilities.
Atomic Breach – This melee ability creates a Void explosion.
Handheld Supernova – Converts your grenade into a short-range Void blast on release.
Dark Matter – Void ability kills grant health and melee, grenade, and class ability energy.
Nova Warp – Step between dimensions to subvert the laws of psychics. Sprint to teleport a short distance. Hold and release to unleash a deadly Void eruption
Nova Warp is getting that massive buff of 75% increase in damage against PVE opponents, and handheld supernova is getting 100% increase.
Let’s check out some exotic armor that’s going to compliment the subclass.
Contraverse Hold is Exotic Warlock Gauntlets with the perk Chaotic Exchanger.
Chaotic Exchanger – Resist incoming damage while charging your Void grenade with Chaos Accelerant, Feed the Void, or Handheld Supernova. Charged Void grenades return a random amount of grenade energy on a hit.
Mobility Enhancement Mod – Increased mobility.
I’m using a void theme for the weapons, as this is going to work well with our Elemental Well mods later on.
Kinetic – Outbreak Perfected
This is an exotic kinetic pulse rifle. Still one of the best in the game, but you can swap out any weapon here really. I like Outbreak Perfected because it’s solid in many situations. You can get this one from the Exotic Kiosk in the tower.
Energy – The Deicide
This is a void hand shotgun, plus also crucially I have a roll with Demolitionist. You want to be getting your grenade back as much as possible, so where possible, if you have demolitionist weapons, it’s really going to help. You can get this one as a world drop and it’s part of the world loot pool, plus banshee-44 sometimes sells it.
Power – Royal Entry
This is a power-void rocket launcher. Once again, it has a demolitionist on it, helping us get our grenades back nice and quickly.
As a quick reminder, demolitionist works great because of Chaotic Exchanger on our Exotic armor. Not only does this help us resist incoming damage, but it returns a certain amount of grenade energy back each time. Basically means you will forever have your grenades up, plus that 100% buff to handheld supernova… this is going to be destructive!
Finally, let’s check out the mods.
Elemental Charge – Become Charged with Light by picking up an elemental well. If the elemental well’s element type matches your subclass element, you gain 2 stacks of Charged with Light.
Elemental Ordnance – Defeating a combatant with a grenade spawns an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type.
Font of Wisdom – Picking up an elemental well that matches your subclass energy type grants you a temporary significant increase in your Intellect, improving the recharge rate of your Super. This gives you a +50 intellect boost for 30 secs, so this one is going to boost your super regeneration significantly.
Taking Charge – Become Charged with Light by picking up orbs of power.
High Energy Fire – Deal more damage when Charged with Light.
It’s also worth checking out the seasonal mods on the artifact next season, I am hoping for some machine gun mods… and we will find out more about that soon. If you’re watching this in the future, and we know that information then I’d swap out Taking Charge and High Energy Fire for some artifact mods.
Let me know what you think about the buff for middle-tree voidwalkers, and will it be enough to get you to play this subclass? Also, if you have any build improvements, let me know in the comments.
