Destiny 2 – How to get Jotunn (Exotic Fusion Rifle) after Beyond Light update
The Jotunn fusion rifle was originally introduced during the Forsaken Expansion, however since Beyond Light the way to get this weapon has changed. Today I am going to look at Jotunn, why it’s one of the best Exotic Fusion Rifles there is plus go over the steps required for how to get Jotunn after the Beyond Light update.
First of all, let’s have a look at Jotunn and why you should get it. Jotunn is an Exotic Energy Fusion Rifle. Looking at the perks we have:
- Charge Shot – Hold down the trigger to charge up a tracking shot that explodes and burns on impact.
- Shield Disorient – Energy matched shield explosion disorients nearby combatants.
Jotunn is very similar to a toaster that slots on your arm, but this one is great because it launches a fireball that seeks enemies. It’s good for damage, takes care of groups very well and it’s also decent in PVP because of the tracking. You don’t really have to do too much, just point and shoot.
Next let’s have a look at how to get it after the Beyond Light update.
How to get Jotunn after Beyond Light
This was originally released as part of the Forsaken expansion, which saw many great exotic weapons like Izanagi’s Burden, Ace of Spades and loads more. You can now buy the Exotic Fusion Rifle from the Exotic Kiosk in the Tower, which you can find next to the Vault in the Tower called Monument to Lost Lights.
Cost:
1 Exotic Cipher
125,000 Glimmer
200 Microphasic Datalattice
1 Ascendant Shard
You can get an Exotic Cipher from the Season Pass, or you can complete the quest from Xur – he’s around from Friday until Tuesday. I do a guide on Xur’s location each week, so make sure you subscribe and hit the notifications bell to never miss an update.
Glimmer can be acquired from pretty much any activity – strikes, gambit, crucible, public events, patrols, etc. You can also go to Spider and trade in materials for Glimmer, but don’t trade in Dusklight Shards as you’re going to need those for Outbreak Perfected.
For the Ascendant Shards you can purchase these from Banshee-44 in the Tower, or you can get them from high-level nightfalls as random drops from the final chest. Finally, there’s the Microphasic Datalattice. This is a little more in-depth so I will get into how to farm Microphasic Datalattice next.
How to farm for Microphasic Datalattice
Microphasic Datalattice is the planetary material found on Nessus and there’s a couple of ways to get them. Before you head down onto Nessus you’ll want to prepare, in particular with your ghost shell. There’s a mod called Wombo Detector which helps you detect caches and resources within a 50m range. Put this on your ghost as this is going to come in use.
Once you’ve done this head down to Nessus. There are a few farming methods we’re going to combine here. Pick up all the bounties from Failsafe, she’s located near the Exodus Black landing zone. Head on in there and pick up all the bounties from her and each one will reward Microphasic Datalattice.
Next, you’ll find to find the caches hidden on Nessus, you’ll be able to see these on your map and they will reward you with Microphasic Datalattice. Finally, you can find individual Microphasic Datalattice on the ground. If you get your ghost out your Wombo Detector Ghost mod will be able to help you find them nice and fast.
It also worth checking out Spider on the Tangled Shore as he may be selling or trading Microphasic Datalattice. His inventory rotates daily. Do be careful with Spider though. I would wait for the 5 x Dusklight Shards to be sold for 1 Legendary Shard, rather than 5000 Glimmer. Unless you have loads of Glimmer and Shards, as SPider will fleece you of everything you’ve got.
Once you have all the materials then head back to the Monuments to Lost Lights in the Tower and purchase Jötunn.
If you’re not yet convinced then here’s 5 great reasons to get Jotunn.
- Jotunn is a very versatile Fusion Rifle and probably one of the best Exotic weapons in the game. Here are some reasons why you should invest your materials into Jotunn (once you have Outbreak Perfected and Izanagi’s Burden).
- Jotunn is very powerful in PVE – It’s pretty much a one-shot kill every time and is great for breaking solar shields. It may take two shots in Gambit for majors, but this is super powerful in PVE. It can also clear out a bunch of enemies very quickly given it’s shooting fire.
- Jotunn can deliver damage over time – The damage on the weapon is good, but this thing also continues to damage after you have shot the weapon, which is great. Enemies will almost burn and die just by looking at them with Jotunn in your hands.
- Jotunn doesn’t hurt you up close – Unlike Rocket Launchers (looking at you Wardcliff Coil), Jotunn doesn’t hurt you up close even though it spits out loads of damage and it’s fire.
- Jotunn is easy – Jotunn has great range, and because it has homing capabilities then it’s great for PVP and PVE content because you can vaguely point the thing in the direction of a target and more than likely it will burn and die.
Finally today, let’s check out the Jotunn Lore.

Subject: Yesterday…
Hen,
It’s no secret that our conversation yesterday didn’t go as smoothly as it could have. I came in hot and you overreacted. We’ll both have to learn to be more professional in those kinds of situations going forward.
But I’m not just going to drop this. The Armory will be better for it. It’s a chance to make real meaningful connections with organizations that want what we want. The possibilities are endless.
Look, you sought me out, brought me here to this project in large part because of my connections. This is the gold mine. And I know, I haven’t said the best things about them in the past. Had my share of hiccups with them. They’re not perfect, but then again neither are we. What the Armory is doing, many would lump us both together.
I know that’s not the best sales pitch, so let me put it in perspective. Enemy of my enemy. It’s that simple. We’re all preparing to fight the same threat, whatever it may be, and we all stand to lose the same things. Our best bet is to stand together, and we start that process here, one step at a time. Exos are the future. And we can help make them better than ever.
Plus, don’t forget we hold the cards here. This is our tech. They can’t touch it, modify it, etc, without our approval. But they can try and steal it or replicate it. I’d rather we maintain control of it, wouldn’t you?
Listen, we’re sisters. We’re family. You know I love you, and you know I wouldn’t come to you with this if I didn’t think it wasn’t in the Armory’s best interests. And in all honesty, if you firmly decide no, then I’ll respect that. You know I will.
But please say yes. For the future of the Armory. For the future of humanity. For the futures of our children.
