Outriders – Pyromancer Showcase: Skills, Class Trees, Build Examples (New Player Guide)

Outriders is just around the corner and when we start out on Enoch we’re going to have the choice of four main classes. Today I am going to be looking at The Pyromancer class and reasons why you should jump in and take advantage of being a Pyromancer.

What is a Pyromancer?

Pyromancer is a medium range class that can control fire. Cover foes in flames, incinerate entire squads and heal your own wounds as enemies fall to your inferno. The Pyromancer is the mage class of Outriders, you’ve got a lot of close and miedium range abilities that focus on damage over time and area of effect.

This class plays really well at mid-range, though by selecting and equipping the correct skills and upgrades, you can tailor it to be quite effective at close range instead. Regardless of your play style, Pyromancers are effects specialists – they can incapacitate a lot of enemies all at once, as well as mark them with skills to drain their health – and increase yours. It’s a good choice for anyone who likes to deal with multiple people at once. The more enemies you fight, the better it is for you – so it’s a great class to choose if you want to be able to deal effectively with big crowds.

Melee Skill

Deal damage and inflict Burn to all enemies within a small radius. The Melee Skill does not require a skill slot nor any Class Points. Sprinting (vs standing) before using the Melee Skill changes to a ground-slam that appears to have a larger area-of-effect but also has a longer cooldown. The base cooldown is 1 second (sprinting Melee Skill 2 seconds); however, each subsequent uses of the Melee Skill increases its cooldown-even in between abilities and weapon fire.

Healing Mechanic

You will recover Health whenever enemies marked by your skills are killed.

Class Traits

  • Receive additional 10% Anomaly Power.
  • Skills Mark damaged enemies for 15 seconds. Killing a Marked heals you by 24% of your maximum Health.

Each class has eight skills, but you can only equip three of them at a time. Different combinations of skills can be combined with weapons and armour to create very effective builds.

  • Heatwave: Type: IGNITE. Summon a fiery wave that deals damage and inflicts Burn to all enemies in its path.
  • Feed the Flames: Type: IMMOBILIZE. Pull an enemy toward you, dealing damage, draining Health, and inflicting Ash.
  • Thermal Bomb: Type: EXPLOSIVE, INTERRUPT. Select an enemy to Burn, Interrupt and deal damage to. If killed while still afflicted by the skill, the enemy will explode, dealing damage in a large radius.
  • Overheat: Type: EXPLOSIVE, INTERRUPT. Deals a little damage to all enemies in a large radius and Interrupt their skills. Enemies afflicted with Burn receive additional damage and the Burn will be consumed.
  • Volcanic Rounds: Type: IGNITE. Fill your current weapon’s magazine with Anomaly-infused bullets that will inflict Burn within a small radius and pierce targets, damaging enemies behind them. The skill lasts until you reload or switch weapons.
  • Ash Blast: Type: IMMOBILIZE. Create an Anomaly blast to inflict Ash on all enemies in a large radius around you.
  • F.A.S.E.R Beam: Type: IGNITE, INTERRUPT. Fire an energy beam that deals damage that benefits from 125% of Status Power, inflicting Burn and causing Interrupt.
  • Eruption: Type: EXPLOSIVE. Create a volcanic eruption beneath the selected enemy, dealing damage to them, and all enemies within a small radius around the target.

Class Trees

There are three main paths in the Pyromancer’s skill tree: Ash Breaker, Firestorm and Tempest. In the demo we’ve only had a few class points available for upgrades, but in the main game we’ll be able to unlock new skills and abilities on one of these trees. Eatly in the trees there is a little overlap, but later on things do get quite specific so it’s best to test things out and see what fits your playstyle.

  • Ash Breaker – This is focused on bonuses that help you deal damage to marked enemies. Here you can kill faster and heal more often.
  • Fire Storm – This is focused on skill damage, anomaly power and burn damage.
  • Tempest – This is the path you want to go down if you’re a tank. Here skills will help your survive in battle through increasing health and reducing imcoming damage

Build examples

Build 1

  • Volcanic Rounds
  • F.A.S.E.R. Beam
  • Eruption

  • Pompeii
  • Pure Power
  • Twice as Hot

Build explainer:

This is a build that’s focused on standing back from the action and dropping bombs from afar, rather than getting up close and personal. F.A.S.E.R. Beam is perfect for this because the damage output is some of the best in the game. F.A.S.E.R. is great too because you inflict Burn and Interrupt on enemies.

Eruption creates a volcano from the ground and in turn inflicts Burn and also area of effect damage. Pompeii (perhaps the mod with the best name in the game) allows you to trigger Eruption twice before the cooldown kicks in, meaning you’re going to be covering the floor with lava.

Finally Volcanic Rounds fills the magazine with bullets that inflict Burn on targets. Twice as Hot works great with Volcanic Rounds adding bonus damage.

Build 2

  • Thermal Bomb
  • Heatwave
  • Feed the Flames

  • Fire Frenzy
  • Tidal Wave

Build explainer:

This build is all about lighting up enemies and turning them to ash, just like a Pyromancer should be doing. Heatwave is great for sending a wall of flames at range, and Thermal Bomb is good for identifying a target and then blowing them up into flames. Feed the flames on the other hand pulls the enemy toward you, dealing damage, draining Health, and inflicting Ash.
