Destiny 2 – How to get Frozen Orbit (Legendary Sniper Rifle)

Frozen Orbit is a new Sniper Rifle put into the game since the start of Season of the Chosen. This is the same archetype as the famous Revoker and it’s got a wide perk pool that’s going to make this a versatile one for both PVP and PVE. Today I am going to look at the weapon stats, god rolls for PVP and PVE and how to get Frozen Orbit in Destiny 2.

Frozen Orbit Stats

Frozen Orbit is a Legendary Energy Sniper Rifle with an Aggressive Frame meaning high damage, and high recoil. Looking at the stats we have Impact 90, Range 75, Stability 34, Handling 28, Reload Speed 37, Rounds Per Minute 72 and Magazine 3.

Frozen Orbit God Rolls

For PVP Killing Wind and Snapshot Sights would be a good roll or perhaps No Distractions and Quickdraw. Killing Wind gives you increased mobility, range and handling for a short duration after final blows. Snapshot Sights remains one of the best perks for a Sniper Rifle in PVP. No Distractions gives you the advantage of cutting down on flinch and Quickdraw allows the weapons to be drawn very fast. Both are good options for PVP if you’re looking to take this one into the Crucible.

For PVE Moving Target and Vorpal Weapon would be good. Vorpal Weapon is great for boss damage. Outlaw and Opening Shot could be a decent PVE roll too. Outlaw is good as precision kills decrease reload time. Opening Shot gives you improved range and accuracy on the opening shot of an attack.

How to get Frozen Orbit

To get this one it’s a random drop at the end of crucible matches or when you rank up at Lord Shaxx. This one is very RNG-based, so I’d recommend going into the crucible and playing a few matches. I did find Survival was much more rewarding than regular Crucible, so you could always hand it out in a few Survival games. There’s also a mod you can equip on your ghost for an extra chance at a weapon at the end of matches, so if your RNG is suffering, then give that a try.

Frozen Orbit Compared

Bite of the Fox is another 72 rpm sniper. This one is a Legendary Kinetic Sniper Rifle with an aggressive frame. When compared to Frozen Orbit we have +2 Range, -6 Stability, -5 Reload Speed and -4 Handling. However, Bite of the Fox is a Kinetic Sniper, meaning this could be paired with effective Kinetic weapons like Dead Man’s Tale, Hawkmoon, Last Word, Ace etc.

Revoker was another Aggressive Frame 72 rpm Sniper, again Kinetic. This one has been sunset now, but looking at the stats compared we have the same impact, -5 Range, the same Stability, -3 handling and the same reload speed. It’s very similar to Revoker in terms of base stats although Revoker had the magic perk Reversal of Fortune where missing a shot returns the bullet to the magazine after a short duration. Revoker was also a pinnacle weapon back in Season 7.

Frozen Orbit Review

I don’t tend to use 72 rpm too much in PVP, I tend to be much more of a 140 or 90 rpm Sniper user. I’m not the most accurate Sniper in the game and when it comes to PVP I prefer the quicker rounds per minute snipers, as I’m more than likely going to whiff my first shot. Having played around with Frozen Orbit a little it’s probably more of a PVE weapon for me, especially with the Triple Tap and Thresh roll I’ve got. If I get something like Snapshot Sights, then I’d consider using it in the Crucible, but until then it’s going to be more of a PVE weapon for me.
