Destiny 2 – How to get Salvager’s Salvo (Legendary Grenade Launcher) Plus Complete Messy Business Quest FAST!
Salvager’s Salvo is a new breech-loading energy grenade launcher available as the pursuit weapon in Season of the Chosen. This weapon has some great perks, plus it comes fully master worked so you’ll want to add this to your list of objectives this season. Today I am going to look at how to get the weapon nice and quickly, plus a look at the perk combinations and how to increase the damage & range of the elemental explosions with a mod.
First up let’s check out how to get the weapon.
How to get Salvager’s Salvo
To get this weapon you’ll need to complete the Messy Business quest, which you can pick up from Banshee-44 in the Tower.
Use Grenade Launchers to complete the following objectives:
- Earn 7,500 points
- Complete matches
The points are earned by defeating combatants in Crucible, Gambit, or Strike playlists. More points are awarded for getting kills with Grenades and Grenade Launcher final blows.
For “complete matches”, players must complete Crucible, Gambit, or Strike playlist matches. More percentage is awarded for Crucible and Gambit wins and Nightfall Strike completions.
There’s a couple of parts to the quest – the points and the matches. For the first part of the quest, I’d recommend going into the Nightfall for the week to earn the points. You’re going to find many more enemies in Nightfall strikes to help you complete the points in the most efficient way possible.
You’ll get more points for using grenades and grenade launchers. I went into the Nightfall with Witherhoard, an Exotic Kinetic Grenade Launcher which was the seasonal exotic from Season of Arrivals. This is a good choice because you’ll shoot blights which do damage over time on enemies. What you can do is lay traps for enemies and place the blights near doors or spawn points so loads of enemies will come into the arena and then simply die – giving you plenty of points nice and fast.
For my other weapons, I was using Bottom Dollar in my Energy Weapon slot and then I doubled up on grenade launchers with Swarm of the Raven in my heavy slot. You can run around with triple Grenade Launchers, but I found this was counterproductive because the Witherhoard takes Special Ammo. I found that I’d run out of Special and Heavy ammo and that would leave me prone to attack, so I opted for a primary ammo weapon in the energy slot.
In terms of perks, you want to try and equip something with Demolitionist on the energy and heavy slot weapons if at all possible, as this is going to give you your grenade energy back faster. It’s not only grenade launcher kills that give you more points, but grenades also do too – so you’ll want to be throwing as many grenades as possible and Demolitionist perk weapons help you do this.
There are other choices of course. Anarchy works in the heavy slot and you could use the Deafening Whisper in the Energy Slot. For me, I found Witherhoard to be the most effective given the damage over time. It’s still simply one of the best weapons in the game, so if you have it in your vault then I’d recommend using it.
For the second part of the quest, there is the complete matches step. The fastest way to do this depends on the way you play. If you are part of a team then you could go into Gambit with a fully stacked team and get this step done nice and quickly. However, Gambit is likely to be a little slower if you are running solo. You could also go into Crucible if you prefer, and if Mayhem is available then that would be good as the matches are going to be nice and fast.
The way I did this was to run Nightfall Strikes, as I was doing this solo and you get extra percentage rewarded for Nightfall runs. Plus I am going after the new Vanguard Nightfall Playlist weapons – this week it was The Shadow Price. I haven’t got one to drop for me yet and I’ve done about 10 nightfalls so far. It looks like the drop rate on these playlist weapons this season is a little slim. In terms of getting matches done nice and quickly pick the playlist, you like the most. Personally, I enjoyed running the Nightfall Strikes as I haven’t got into the swing of Nightfalls for ages, plus this past week we’ve been facing off against Sepiks Prime which was very nostalgic.
Salvager’s Salvo Stats and Perks
Salvager’s Salvo is a Legendary Energy Arc Grenade Launcher which has a Lightweight Frame with a One-shot handheld Grenade Launcher with remote detonation. Looking at the stats we have Stability 33, Handling 73, Reload Speed 73, Velocity 73, Blast Radius 55, Rounds Per Minute 90 and Magazine 1. Given it’s the
- Ambitious Assassin – Overflows the magazine based on the number of rapid kills before reloading
- Demolitionist – Kill with this weapon give grenade energy
- Vorpal Weapon – Increased damage against bosses, vehicles, and Guardians with their Super active
- Chain Reaction – Each final blow with this weapon creates an elemental damage explosion
The perk options here are very good. Demolitionist is very good on a breech-loading grenade launcher. Demolitionist on special weapons seems to give back more grenade energy than kinetic weapons meaning you’ll have your grenades back pretty much right away. You can also throw a grenade to reload, meaning you can shoot, throw, reload and then shoot again all in quick succession.
Chain Reaction is my choice for the fourth slot, as the elemental explosions are going to help you clear out loads of enemies. Salvager’s Salvo is the only breech-loading grenade launcher to have Chain Reaction, so I would use it – it’s going to make clearing out loads of enemies nice and easy. This would definitely come in handy for Battlegrounds against the waves of Cabal you have to face, plus future nightfalls too.
Another tip is to put Dragonfly Spec mod on the weapon and this interacts with Chain Reaction. This increases the radius and damage of the explosions caused by Chain Reaction and it essentially adds 50% more fun to Salvager’s Salvo.
All-in-all this is a must-have weapon in Season of the Chosen. The quest is relatively straight forward to complete, albeit a little time-consuming. Hopefully these tips here today will help you save some time and get it faster so you can be using Salvager’s Salvo as soon as possible.
