Destiny 2 – Live Event To Close Season Of Arrivals Including Time And Location

It’s the final day of Season of Arrivals and tomorrow we all have Beyond Light to look forward to. It’s a lot like Christmas Eve at the moment and we’re on the cusp of new subclasses with the addition fo Stasis, Europa and a whole bunch of changes to Destiny 2 which we’ve been looking forward to for some months. Bungie has teased a small live event for the finale of Season of Arrivals before an extended period of downtime for the game before Beyond Light launches. The following is a guide for the live event to close Season of Arrivals.

At the end of last season, we had our first-ever live event inside Destiny 2, where The Almighty crashed near the last city due to The Warmind Rasputin saving us at the last minute. Today we’re getting another event inside Destiny and it’s going to be interesting to see how they can build on what came before and perhaps improve the live event experience, as the first one was a little long.

There’s a bunch of clues out there pointing to a new event inside Destiny 2 today. First of all, I got this email from Bungie stating

Be sure to catch the finale of the Season and see the conclusion before Beyond Light releases. For more information on what is coming, read the new This Week at Bungie now.

This comes from an email that goes out to Destiny account holders. What’s strange about the email is that it points to last week’s This Week At Bungie update, where nothing was mentioned.

However, Luke Smith (Destiny’s Game Director) came out shortly afterwards on Twitter to clarify. “”We have a small event to close out Season of Arrivals,” he said. “We wanted it to be a surprise but an email accidentally mentioned it! It’s nothing too crazy, just a little time to chill in the Tower before the Lights go out. See you soon.”

There are a few things in here we can have a look at. “Small event” may refer to the previous event that took over 90 minutes to complete, so hopefully Bungie has streamlined it this time. “Nothing too crazy” which probably means it’s not going to be the removal of the planets and destinations, but I wouldn’t bet against something happening live in-game and then perhaps that leading into a cut scene where we see the Pyramids delete the planets and moons that are going into the Destiny Content Vault. “Just a little time to chill in the tower before the lights go out” So we know we need to be in the Tower once again for the show to go off. The Lights going away most likely refers to the servers going offline for 14 hours in prep for Beyond Light, rather than something big in-game like the Darkness attacking us.

What time is the Destiny 2 Live Event?

In terms of timing then it looks like it’s going to be approximately 12 pm GMT (Midnight here in the UK and 7 pm ET, 4 pm PT Monday 9th November) as Bungie has sent a notification about some server maintenance. Players are going to be removed from activities and asked to download a small update. This could be Bungie’s way of protecting the live event, as anything that goes in the game inevitably gets data mined and all the details spilt minutes later. By doing this they could therefore keep the contents of the event a secret.

Before any of this happened, players noticed that Bungie had said that on Monday at 7 PM ET, players will be removed from activities and asked to download a small update before logging back in. This implies to me they may be loading in the live event at the last minute so that it didn’t fully leak beforehand. So whatever is happening, it may start around then. So in short, plan to be in the Tower sometime between 7 PM ET when this update happens and 10 PM ET when the servers are shut off. I don’t know if the event is literally three hours or might just be the last thirty seconds before the server goes off, but this is what we know right now.

What will happen in the Destiny 2 Live Event?

Currently, we don’t know what’s going to happen in the event We have seen the Traveler healed in promotional material for Beyond Light and currently if you look up in the sky then the Traveler is still busted. Could the Pyramids arrive and then the Traveler heal itself in readiness for battle? As well as the promotional material for Destiny 2 Beyond Light showing the Traveler fixed, we can also see that in the preview of the new Destiny Director, which is going to be released with Beyond Light and our new way of navigating around the solar system. Here we can see the Traveler as per normal sitting above earth but repaired.

Given we’ve had the Pyramid Ships arrived at locations that are going into the Destiny Content Vault it’s conceivable that the Pyramids may finally enter Earth’s skybox and threaten the Traveler itself. This may cause it to ‘power up’ and repair itself, in full readiness for a battle down the road.

I would imagine it’s likely we’ll get some kind of cutscene either after the live event or when Beyond Light starts. We still have a bunch of context-setting to fill in, such as what is the Darkness going to do to the vaulted planets and moons. Will they be blown out of the sky, or will they simply be quarantined away? Eris Morn and Drifter are going to leave the Moon/Tower and head off to Europa… but we don’t yet know why. We’re supposed to be getting some kind of distress call from Variks, but that hasn’t happened yet.

The question remains too – will we go to Europa with Ikora and Zavala’s blessing? Given we’re going there to experiment with darkness abilities and powers I would imagine Zavala isn’t going to react well to such information. He may expect this kind of behaviour from Drifter or at a stretch Eris, but us? We’ve been Zavala’s champion of the light for a long time and there’s a huge risk he could feel very let down. Baring all this in mind, I am hoping for some context before the servers go down. 14 hours is a long time, and hopefully, Bungie is going to weave some story context into why things are down.

At the moment we don’t know what’s going to happen in the event, but we do know it’s not to be missed and it’s bound to be an explosive way to round out the season and set us all up for Beyond Light tomorrow.

Whatever happens, enjoy it and I’ll see you in the Tower Guardians.
