Destiny 2 – How to get The Chaperone (Exotic Shotgun)

Shotguns have always been pretty handy in Destiny 2, whether you’re in PVP or PVE. Bungie gave some love to the slug shotgun archetype before Season of Arrivals, so I wanted to let you know about one of the better shotguns in that class so you can dish out the damage in style. The following is a guide for how to get The Chaperone in Destiny 2.

The Chaperone isn’t a new shotgun, in fact, it’s been around since Season 4 in Destiny 2. However, now with the buff, Bungie has added it’s much more viable in this sandbox. In update 2.9.0 Bungie buffed slug shotguns by saying “Slug Shotgun PvE Damage + 30%”, so that’s a pretty good increase and is going to make these shotguns a very valuable part of your arsenal in Destiny 2.

Let’s have a look at the quest steps in a little more detail.

Holliday Family History

The first step of the quest is to get the pursuit ‘Holliday Family History’. This is a random reward from any activity or bounty completion, so keep playing and it’ll drop for you and will be available in the quests tab. Some have reported it from Crucible match completions, some from other activities.

Visit Amanda Holliday

Once you have Holliday Family History then it’s time to go and visit Amanda in the Tower. She’s in the Hangar in the Tower. Have a chat with her, then it’s onto the next step of the quest.

20 shotgun kills in Crucible

This one is fairly self-explanatory, simply get 20 shotgun kills while playing crucible matches. If you don’t like PVP, then try and get as close as you can to your opponents and get those one-shot kills. Take your time, practice and the kills will come. Once you have 20, it’s onto the next step of the quest.

Elemental kills

Next up you have to get Arc, Solar and Void kill. You can either use weapons here or your class abilities and supers. To make this more efficient I would have a different class to the weapon, so I’d be getting one type of kills with the guardian and another with the weapon. Try not to get killed too much as deaths are going to slow your progress on this one. Once you have the kills, then it’s time to move onto the next step of the quest.

15 Invasion Kills in Gambit

For this step of the quest, you have to get 15 invasion kills in Gambit. This can be by killing when you are invading, or when they are invading you. Good weapons for this include Xenophage or a good sniper. Keep an eye on the portal activity and when it becomes available, get over there and start taking out Guardians. Once you have 15 done, then it’s time to go and pick up your new weapon!

Return to Amanda Holliday

The final step is to go back to Amanda and pick up The Chaperone. Congrats, you are now the proud owner of an exotic slug shotgun!

The Chaperone

The Chaperone is an exotic slug shotgun with a couple of nice exotic perks including Precision Slug, which fires a single-slug precision round. Also, there’s The Roadborn where precision kills briefly grant bonus handling, range and precision damage with this weapon.

The stats on this weapon are pretty great. It has 100 for range and 75 for impact, so it’s going to hit nice and hard. It also has great handling at 82. It’s 70 rounds per minute shotty with 6 in the magazine.

Once you have the shotgun, get out there in your favourite activity and dish out some damage. This is a great weapon in all modes of the game. Given the 30% buff from Bungie in Season of Arrivals, this makes slug shotguns very viable indeed. We also have the Blasphemer, Good Bone Structure and Gunnora’s Axe to name a few, but The Chaperone, as well as being one of the finest looking guns in the game with that Ol’ West style, it’s also very dangerous and will be a great addition to your loadout this season and beyond.

Let me know down in the comments how you’re getting on with levelling up your season pass and if you have any tips on levelling up faster, share the info.
