New Drifter trailer shows Europa and teases the future of Destiny 2
Bungie continues the tease for the future of Destiny 2 with a new trailer dropped onto social media accounts today. This is following on from other snippets of footage – An audio files from the Darkness, Eris on Europa and now we have The Drifter. The following is a look at the new Drifter trailer shows Europa and teases the future of Destiny 2.
Before we go any further, let’s check out the teaser trailer in full.
First, we see a small ship leaving a holding bay of a larger ship arriving near Jupiter. An icy moon is the destination, with Jupiter looming large in the background. The camera moves into the ship and we clearly see The Drifter there as the lone pilot. The trailer ends by saying June 9th 2020, 9 am PDT and the web address bungie.net/reveal.
At the time of creating this, the reveal website isn’t up, but I am sure it will be over the coming days. This follows hot on the heels of the leaked trailer with Eris Morn battling through the wind and the snow on the same destination, very likely to be Europa – a small, icy moon in the orbit of Jupiter.
We have also had an audio file, the origins haven’t’ been confirmed, but the audio pattern looked very much like a Pyramid ship. This clue leaves more to the imagination compared to the other two. Finally, yesterday we saw the Darkness on their Pyramid Ships arriving in the Orbit of Jupiter.
The two trailers we’ve seen have a few things in common. Europa appears to be our destination. For some reason, some key players are heading there like Eris and The Drifter – both who have links to the Darkness with Eris touching the Veil Statue and the Drifter constantly going on at us to “Embrace the Darkness”.
What are Eris and The Drifter doing there? Are they planning to meet the Darkness, to work with them? Are sides forming and will we have to decide who we fight for? Who’s going to show up next and fight with the Darkness – The Nine perhaps?
We haven’t yet seen anything of Rasputin, Osiris, Zavala, Ikora or Ana Bray. Rasputin is getting ready to blast The Almighty out of the sky, perhaps at the last minute leading to a damaged or partially destroyed Tower. Ana’s all happy talking about a second Golden Age (although it’s more likely to be The Collapse 2 rather than Golden AGe 2 unfortunately) and we haven’t seen Osiris since he stormed into speak to Rasputin at the start of the season.
It looks like we’re going to get the reveal for the Fall Expansion on June 9th, just before the season ends, leading into Season 11 where we’ll get our Avengers Assemble moment of Light VS Dark lining up. It’s highly likely that in Season 11 we’re going to see The Darkness perhaps setting up a base on Europa, with that as our destination for year 4 of Destiny 2. Whether we’ll get inside one of the Pyramid Ships too, we don’t know yet… but I am hopeful.
One interesting point here is related to the Darkness key players getting together on Europa. If we’re going to see Light VS Dark, will be offered a choice in Season 11 to pledge our allegiance to one side or the other? We have been speculating in the community for some time about Darkness subclasses, however, it felt before it was too early. Now, with the key players lining up, I’m not so sure anymore.
Bungie did say to us during one of their VIDOCs before Shadowkeep that season 11 is going to be one of the craziest seasons ever in Destiny 2. Luke Smith has proclaimed “You are not prepared”, alluding to World of Warcraft where factions battle. One thing’s for sure, these are very exciting times in the world of Destiny right now.
Over the coming days, we’re likely to see more teaser trailers. More chess pieces moving into position, plus we still have The Almighty storyline to conclude and Season 10 to finish. It’s looking like that will happen now at reset, leading into Season 11 just after the trailer for the Fall DLC. I guess we should all keep our eyes on the Drifter, as it looks like he’s leaving soon… perhaps taking Gambit with him.
Let me know what you think down in the comments. What do you think of the Drifter teaser trailer and who do you think we’ll focus on next? What do you think about Light VS Darkness and which side would you pick?
