Season of the Worthy

Destiny 2 – Guardian games revealed with New Exotic Machine Gun Heir Apparent

The first-ever Guardian Games is coming to Destiny 2 and we’ll all be engaged in a competition to see which class is best. This has been a long-running topic in the community, but we’ll finally have some stats to prove it. The following is a guide to what is Guardian Games in Destiny 2.

A trailer was released today, let’s have a look at that first.

Guardian Games is just around the corner and the competition kicks off on April 21st and will run until May 11th 2020. It’s a free event, available to all Destiny 2 players. We’ll be getting a permanent reminder of which class won for the rest of the year. We’ll have a big scoreboard up in the Tower, so you and your fellow classmates will be able to point to this and demonstrate you’re part of the best class for the coming months.

The event kicks off by speaking to Eva and Zavala and there’s a series of daily class challenges. Each point you score will be totalled up and displayed on the public scoreboard, so everyone’s going to know the progress in-game. This is something we’ve been asking for as a community for a long time, so it’s great to see progress bars going up in the game rather than on external websites or apps.

In terms of rewards, we’ll get the chance to earn Hier Apparent, a new exotic machine gun. The description on Bungie’s website reads ‘The low hum assures you that you have pulled the trigger. It begins to spin. SLowly for a moment and then in an instant blindingly fast. The roar of the Heir Apparent rises above the crowd, the tide turns and the glory of your class is secured”.

We’ve seen this in the Season of the Worthy trailer before, but it’s also shown in the new Guardian Games trailer. This one looks similar to a Cabal Machine Gun we’ve seen in the past and looks like a formidable machine gun. The description sounds similar to the mechanic found on Suros Regime where it gets faster the longer you hold down the trigger.

There was a leak a few weeks ago related to Heir Apparent from Ginsor, a very reliable Destiny leaker, and it says about the weapon.

Heavy Slug Thrower (Intrinsic Perk) – Uses to spin up. The weapon can be fired only when fully spun up.

Corkscrew Rifling – Balanced barrel – slightly increases range and stability and slightly increases handling speed.

Appended Mag – The magazine is built for higher capacity.

Armour of the Colossus (trait) – While at full health, spinning up this weapon protects you with an arc shield.

It’s a 900 rpm machine gun with 115 in the mag and has pretty good range with 64. Comparing that to Hammerhead, which is one of the best machine guns in the game, that one is only 450 rpm and 60 in the magazine. So it’s double the rounds per minute and approx double the magazine size. Same with Thunderlord, this one is only 450 rpm and 62 in the mag. Something that stands out on the stats is 0 zoom, so perhaps that balances out the speed and mag size. Finally, the text on the gun says “The Red Legion will march again”… which is disconcerting.

Eververse will be getting an update too with new emotes and ornament sets. There’s two new ships and sparrows to be obtained too. There’s some armour on display too, hopefully, which will be obtained through gameplay rather than Eververse – but we’ll find out next week.

The Tower’s going to be decorated from the rafters with colours and streamers. As well as the Tower, you can also bring some of that flair home. Complete the weekly “On your Laurels” quest and unlock exclusive Bungie Rewards Guadian Games Box.

Guardian Games sounds good fun. There’s been a long-running rivalry in the community between Hunters, Titans and Warlocks – but we’ve never had anything in the game. We have had community events before where we’ve had to come together to complete a common goal, like the Mars event where will had to kill millions of Hive and the Empyrean Foundation event where we had to donate fractaline to rebuild the Lighthouse for Trials.

This is a small iteration on that, where progress will be shown in the game and that’s a good thing. However, the trailer states Zavala wants to bring us together… I’m not sure a class competition is going to do that! I’m probably most excited for the new exotic, and hopefully, we’ll get some bonus XP for completing the tasks much as we did in the Dawning.

Let me know down in the comments what you think of Guardian Games. What do you think of the new exotic and which class do you think is going to win the games?

That’s it for this look at what is Guardian Games. For more Destiny 2 content like this check out the Shadowkeep Guide or check out the YouTube Channel.
