Destiny 2 – How to get Austringer (Legendary Hand Cannon)
Austringer is a hand cannon that was introduced during Season of Opulence and it’s a heavy-hitting primary that’s decent in Crucible. It’s pretty easy to grind for too with the Chalice of Opulence upgraded, so the following is a guide for how to get Austringer.
Austringer is one of the weapons you can farm from the Menagerie and together with Beloved (the legendary sniper rifle) can make up a useful loadout in PVP. It’s not the faster of hand cannons at 140 rpm, however, with the right rolls this deserves a place in your primary weapon inventory going into PVP whether you like Quickplay, Competitive or your planning on going into the upcoming Trials of Osiris.
First of all, you’ll want to get the weapon. To do this you’ll need to do 3 things:
- Upgrade the Chalice of Opulence to rune compatibility II. This will allow you to get green runes. Specifically, you’re looking for a Rune of Desire.
- Slot the Rune of Desire into the top slot, and then slot a red rune into the left slot.
- Run the Menagerie and open the chest at the end
If you haven’t gone through The Invitation quest to get the Chalice then you can check out a guide for that here. To upgrade the chalice you’re going to need imperials. You can either farm these from Menagerie runs or you can open chests on the Barge on Nessus which is going to cost 5k glimmer each time. Rune Compatibility II can be found at the bottom left-hand side of the screen, hover over that and use your imperials to upgrade the chalice. Once upgraded you’re going to need to find the runes if you don’t have them already.
To get the runes, pick up the Rune Finder from Werner on the Barge and consume it before you go into an activity and this will help you pick up new runes. I ran a few games of Gambit and PVP and that gave me the runes I needed. You can also get runes from opening chests on the barge on Nessus, although this is going to be the most costly method of getting runes. My advice here would be run some activities you like and the runes will naturally drop.
Once you have a green rune and a red rune slot them into the right place. The Green goes at the top and the red rune goes on the left.
The final step here is to run the Menagerie. You can pretty much go into this blind, it’s a six-person matchmade activity. Run through the phases of the Menagerie taking along your best DPS weapons you have. I tend to use something like Izanagi’s Burden for DPS on bosses and the Recluse for clearing out lower health enemies. Beat the final boss, go to the chest and open it up and you will get a brand new Austringer.
Once you get this gun, head into PVP and start dishing it and make Calus proud.
Austringer is an adaptive frame kinetic hand cannon and has a 140 rpm with 11 in the magazine. It’s got base stats of 84 impact, meaning it’s going to hit guardians hard in PVP. The base range on this weapon is 51, so if you can get range perks or a barrel on this gun then that’s going to help you out. It’s also got 64 for stability so it’s not going to jump around too much in your hands.
It can drop with Opening Shot, Rampage, Rangefinder, Outlaw, Triple Tap and more. The curated roll on this one is Rangefinder, Outlaw although Rampage and Outlaw would be great too.
Let me know down in the comments what you think of Austringer. How does this compare to other legendary hand cannons like Spare Rations, Waking Vigil and Jack Queen King. What’s your preferred hand cannon going into PVP and which rolls did you get?
