Destiny 2 – How The Empyrean Foundation works and completing Bright Future quest
The Empyrean Foundation charity drive has begun in Destiny 2 as building the foundations for things to come begins. Saint-14 needs our help once again as we look to build a beacon. The following is a guide for how The Empyrean Foundation works and completing Bright Future quest.
The Tower Obelisk is going to be the focal point of the event, so make sure it’s unlocked and ready to go as there’s going to be some benefits in contributing. Check out a guide for that here.
Before you do any of this you’ll want to turn in any Polarized Fractaline you have into any of the Obelisks on the Tangled Shore, Mars, EDZ or Nessus. By doing this it’ll raise your Resonance Power Level. The Resonance Power Level will determine how much free fractaline you’ll get back each week, and you’ll want to get as much as possible. Once you’ve raised the Resonance Power Level as high as possible you’ll want to open up The Empyrean Restoration quest.
To start the quest you’ll want to go and visit Saint-14 in the Tower and pick up the quest Bright Future.
Heart of the Sundial
Once you have picked up the quest from Saint-14 head into the Sundial and do a run. You’ll go through as per normal, but then at the end you’ll be teleported to a new area where you’ll face off against all the Psion Flayers who team up to form a mega-psion.
The mechanics are slightly different this time where first of all the 3 flayers will join up, and you’ll get teleported back and forth. Simply DPS the boss until you’re teleported back to the main area, stand on the plates to break the main bosses shields and then finish him off.
Brighten the Core
For the next step of the quest, you’ll have to infuse the core with light by gathering Orbs. Put on some masterwork weapons and head into your favourite activity with a lot of enemies. I went to the Altars of Sorrow on the Moon and got this done in about 5 minutes by collecting 30 orbs of light.
Lantern in the Dark
Now you’ve infused the core head back to the Tower and insert the core into the Tower Obelisk. You’ll then get a pop-up called A Group Effort which means you’ve opened up The Empyrean Restoration.
Pharos Link
For the final step go back to see Osiris on Mercury. Also, throughout this quest you’ll probably complete a bunch of triumphs, so make sure you inspect your triumphs and get the fractaline rewards.
The Empyrean Restoration loop
There’s a loop you’ll want to get into over the coming weeks to maximise your resonance power and the amount of polarized fractaline you’ll get for free each week. The loop is as follows:
- Raise the level of each Obelisk in the Solar System either on the Tangeled Shore, Mars, EDZ or Nessus
- Raising the levels of the Obelisks raises your Resonance Power on the Tower Obelisk
- Each week you’ll get free fractaline related to your current resonance power level
- Donate back a percentage to The Empyrean Foundation to get rewards
For example. when I finished the quest I had a resonance power level of 1600. When I opened up A Group Effort I instantly got 1600 free fractaline, this is because I had powered by my obelisk on the Tangled Shore and partially on Mars.
One of the benefits of this loop is it allows you to farm god rolls of your favourite Timelost weapons. Each time you donate to The Empyrean Foundation you’ll get 25% increase on all Timelost weapon bounties. This is much easier and faster than going out there in the wild and doing the bounties.
Therefore with the free weekly fractaline you can either pump this into Obelisks out there in the Solar system (which will increase your resonance power level for MORE free fractaline each week) or you can donate to the Empyrean Foundation (which costs you 100 fractaline each donation) to get the boost on your Timelost weapon frame bounties.
One thing I hadn’t done was linked each planetary Obelisk to the Tower Obelisk, limiting the number of weapons I could pick up. To complete these you only have to complete a single Timelost weapon bounty per Obelisk, so simply head on over to each one, pick up a bounty and do them. I had to do one where I killed Vex and another which included finishers on Hive. The benefit of opening up and linking all the Obelisks is you have more god roll weapons to farm.
Once you’ve linked all the Obelisks and you have access to array of weapons donate a little to the Empyrean Foundation and then pump the rest into the other obelisks. Over the next few weeks you’ll want to power up the planetary obelisks as much as possible to get the maximum amount of free weekly fractaline. The season ends on the 9th March and it’s likely this drive will be open for 3-4 weeks, although keep an eye on This Week At Bungie for more information about that.
Much like the Mars event last year where we had to kill a certain number of enemies, Bungie wants us to view this as the evolution of that event. Guardians will come together to contribute Polarized Fractaline using the Tower Obelisk. Also, and this is the best, there’s going to be IN-GAME progression! This is something we’ve been asking Bungie about for a long time, so it’s great to see a meter in-game that’s going to be going up with community progress towards the goals.
There are a bunch of benefits to contributing:
- Contributing to the Empyrean Foundation costs 100 Polarized Fractaline.
- Contributing generates a 25% flat progression for all Timelost weapon bounties in your inventory.
- Your Tower Obelisk will generate Polarized Fractaline for you each week equivalent to its Resonance Power.
- Increase its Resonance Power by upgrading other Obelisks
- Players who donate more than 5,000 Polarized Fractaline before the end of the Season will earn a Triumph and emblem.
Everyone in the community will also receive a shader when all stages are completed. Here’s a look at community goals for the seven stages.
Stage 1: 400,000,000
Stage 2: 700,000,000
Stage 3: 1,200,000,000
Stage 4: ???
Stage 5: ???
Stage 6: ???
Stage 7: ???
Everyone is welcome to contribute. This event will be available to all Destiny 2 players and doesn’t require the Season Pass. So we’re all working together on a rebuilding effort. Data mined data suggests we’re going to be rebuilding the Lighthouse on Mercury, but it will be interesting to see how this opens up through the game.
The benefits here including a new shader, emblem but mainly the 25% progression for all Timelost weapon bounties. It will definitely be worth getting a god roll Perfect Paradox, Breachlight, Steelfeather Repeater and Jack Queen King.
What do you think of the Empyrean Foundation Drive and do you think it’s worth it? Now we’re coming to the end of Season of Dawn, how do you think it went and what could be improved for the future?
