EA Play E3 2019 Round-Up

EA held their EA Play 2019 event with a focus on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order but also talking about Apex Legends, FIFA 20, Sims 4, Battlefield V and Madden 20.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was center stage and given a gameplay reveal. Previously Respawn had shown off story details and had been building the gameplay reveal for some time. Respawn showed off nearly 15 mins of footage which included the battle system, story elements, and abilities. The main hero Cal Kestis has an array of Force abilities including pushing, pulling, double jumping and slowing down time. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order appears to have Souls inspired combat which has drawn comparison’s to From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Dies Twice. However, Respawn has said they don’t want the game to be as punishing, but just as satisfying. BD-01, your droid-friend, helps you out along your adventure by scanning, hacking and generally helping out when needed. The game mixes combat elements with platforming which is a little different from what people expected from the game. Fallen Order launches November 15th, 2019.

Next up on EA’s playlist was Apex Legends who unveiled Season 2 and a few more surprises. Wattson is a new character who will be introduced as part of Season 2. Wattson is an electricity focused engineer who can set fences to electrocute opponents. She can also shoot down grenades and shots with her Interception Pylon Ultimate AND Wattson can get a full ultimate charge when she uses the Ultimate Accelerant. As well as new characters, new weapons are coming to Apex Legends including the L-Star rifle which arrives from Titanfall 2. There’s also the quality of life updates and hints at an upcoming seasonal too with a huge eye and creature involved.

FIFA 20 was confirmed with the yearly feature updates. The thing that stands out from the crowd here is FIFA 20 Volta Football, which essentially is FIFA Street reimagined. Volta Football is like a small five-a-side game played in the back streets and matches will take place all over the world in different stages. There’s 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5. In other improvements to FIFA 20 there’s new ball physics, more focus on 1v1. FIFA 20 will launch on September 27th, 2019.

Battlefield V is adding three new maps – including Marita and Al Sandan. The new maps are coming on June 27, 2019. EA talked up Chapter 5 which focused on the battle between the US and Japanese forces in the Pacific. New amphibious vehicles will be available as well as other quality of life updates and private servers.

Madden 20 showed off some nice new features including Run Pass Options as well as the new Scenario Engine which helps you improve in single-player mode (Face of the Franchise).

The Sims 4 expansion was also shown off at E3 with The Sims 4: Island Living. This features mermaids, beachwear and everything you need to give your Sims a well deserved holiday in the sun. Whether you’re interested in lazing around by the pool or cleaning up the beach there’s something here for all manner of Sims fans. The Sims 4: Island Living comes to PC on June 21st and consoles on July 16th 2019.
