Beyond Light is coming this November, so we still have a little time to prepare and get those weapons we’ve been after for some time. There are a bunch of weapons in the game right now that are going to be viable when the DLC rolls around this fall, and today I am going to go through 10 of my favourites. The following is a guide to the best weapons to get now before Beyond Light.
I’m going to go through a range of weapons in the kinetic, energy and power slots and they’re going to be a mixture of legendary and exotic weapons. Before I go any further, I’d love you to let me know down in the comments what weapons are must-haves in your loadout at the moment and what you’re going to be taking into Beyond Light. OK, done that? Right… let’s jump into this top 10 list of must-have weapons for Beyond Light preparation.
First up let’s start with the Kinetic weapons.
Cold Denial is a Legendary / Kinetic / Pulse Rifle, which you can get from reaching level 45 on the season pass. Once you have it you can farm for more rolls through Umbral Engrams.
High-Impact Frame – Slow-firing and high-damage. This weapon is more accurate when stationary and aiming down sights. High Impact frame pulse rifles got a buff at the start of Season of Arrivals and this one is going to remain strong for PVE and PVP.
Curated Roll: Headseeker, Zen Moment
PVE: Swashbuckler, Feeding Frenzy
PVP: Zen Moment, Eye of the Storm
Max Power: 1360, sunsets in Season 15
Astral Horizon was introduced into the game when Trials came back into Destiny 2 during season 10. It’s an aggressive frame kinetic shotgun and is definitely considered one of the best PVP shotguns right now.
The curated roll comes with Elemental Capacitor where you get increased stats based on your subclass – void gets increased stability, solar gets increased reload speed and Arc gets increased handling. It also comes with Slideshot where sliding partially reloads the weapon’s magazine and boosts range and stability as well as Assault Mag for another increase in stability and rate of fire and Rifled Barrel for the increase in range and decrease in handling speed.
For PVP I would look for either Celerity/Quickdraw or Opening Shot/Quickdraw. For PVE perhaps One-two Punch/Slideshot would be good or maybe Swashbuckler/Autoloading Holster. This has a max power of 1310 and sunsets in Season 14.
To get this weapon you’re going to need to run some Trials of Osiris. For this, you’ll need to find two other Guardians as there’s no matchmaking. If you don’t have anyone in your clan or are not part of a clan, then try the Bungie LFG website or the companion app. The rewards for Trials of Osiris rotate each week. I would use a website like light.gg or something like that and it tells you there on the homepage what the rewards are for Trials each week. You get a reward at 3 wins, 5 wins, 7 wins and also for a flawless victory when you go to the lighthouse.
Supremacy is a Legendary / Kinetic / Sniper Rifle.
Rapid-Fire Frame – Deeper ammo reserves. Slightly faster reload when the magazine is empty. This is also a 140 frame sniper, which is rare in the kinetic slot, so a good potential replacement for Revoker.
Curated roll: Rapid Hit, Kill Clip
PVP: Snapshot Sights, Rapid hit
PVE: Ambitious Assassin, Triple Tap
Max Power: 1360 sunsets in Season 15
To get this weapon you’ll want to run The Last Wish Raid. It’s a random drop from raid chests. You can also get this weapon without running the raid at all, and depending on how many characters you have you can try multiple times per week. Check out a guide for that here.

Ikelos Sniper v1.0.2
The Ikelos Sniper is a legendary energy sniper rifle that deals solar damage. It’s a rapid-frame sniper, which means deeper ammo reserves and faster reloading when the magazine is empty.
The curated roll here comes with Box Breathing were aiming with this weapon for a short time without firing grants bonus range and precision damage. It also comes with Triple Tap where rapidly landing precision hits will return 1 round to the magazine. It also has Serpah Rounds, which I think is unique to this Sniper Rifle, and Full bore which increases range decreases stability and handling speed.
For PVE I would go for something like Box Breathing or High Impact Reserves for that increase in Damage and pair that up with either Triple Tap or Fourth Time’s the Charm. For PVP Quick Draw and Moving Target would be your best bet, as we don’t have Snapshot Sights.
To get this weapon you’ll want to get your hands on an Exodus Engram for a chance at a drop. You can get Exodus Engrams by completing steps in the quest for Zavala called Exodus: Preparation. The first step here is to go and speak to Zavala. He’ll let you know it’s down to us to protect the system now that the Pyramids have arrived and sends us on a quest around the planets that are going to be vaulted in Beyond Light – Titan, Io, Mercury and Mars.
Once you have spoken to Zavala, he’ll then send to you Sloan on Titan. What you have to do here is complete a Weekly Bounty from Sloane. There are 2 on offer and you have a choice of some activities – this might be running a strike, killing a few enemies somewhere specific on the map or running public events. Read the bounty and then get on with those activities. When you have finished the activity head back to Sloane and you’ll get your Exodus Engram. Then head on over to the Umbral Decoder to decode the engram for a chance at a drop of this weapon. There’s a 1 in 4 chance of getting it.
If you want more Exodus Engrams, then keep on with the Exodus Preparation quest and you’ll visit Asher on Io, Brother Vance on Mercury and Ana on Mars. There’s some great lore available as well as more Exodus Engrams.
This is an adaptive frame auto rifle that goes in the energy slot, it’s a 600 rounds per minute auto with 43 in the magazine and shoots void damage.
The curated roll comes with rampage, for kills with this weapon grant increased damage, Overflow for when you pick up special or heavy ammo it reloads beyond normal capacity, Appended Mag for that increase in magazine size and Arrowhead Brake for an increase in recoil and handling.
For PVE lookout for Rampage, Subsistence and Extended or Appended mag. For PVP Kill clip, Zen Moment and Accurized Rounds. Mine has Swashbuckler and Tap the Trigger, so I could definitely have a better roll.
To get the curated roll you’ll still want to run Reckoning, however, there is a much easier way to get it through Umbral Engrams.
Eriana’s Vow is an Exotic / Energy / Hand Cannon which was first introduced in Shadowkeep as the seasonal exotic from Season 8. However, if you missed this you can pick it up by using the Exotic Cipher, which is a reward from the Season Pass. Go to see Rahool and trade in that Cipher for Eriana’s Vow. Out of all the weapons, this is the must-have one going into Beyond Light.
Looks Can Kill – This weapon fires special [Shield-Piercing] shield-piercing ammunition. It comes with a scope. Strong against Barrier Champions.
Death at First Glance – Bonus damage when aiming down sights on the opening shot of an attack. This bonus is preserved if the shot deals precision damage or strikes an elemental shield.
Finally, let’s check out the power weapons
Whisper of the Worm
This is a 72 rpm solar sniper rifle with 3 in the magazine. It has a very cool looking taken the design and comes with some great stats like max impact and huge range.
The main benefit of this weapon is the perk White Nail, where rapidly landing three precision hits refills the magazine. It also has Mulligan, where missing a shot has a chance to return ammo directly to the magazine. This is a power weapon that uses heavy ammo, but if you can utilize that main perk then ammo won’t be too much of a problem here.
After you’ve got the gun jump into a strike and test it out. This is also going to be useful for raids, and any other end game PVE activity. Not sure it’s a great pick for PVP as it’s quite slow, but it’s up to you.
Get this one now from the mission on Io, as it’s going to be going away for a short time while Bungie figures out how to put it back into the game. There’s a timed mission on Io, you have 20 mins to get through a series of jumping puzzles and underground mazes. It’s hands down one of the best pieces of content in the game, so as well as a great weapon, there’s an awesome quest to go along with it too.
Anarchy is an exotic, power grenade launcher that features Arc Traps. These are grenades that stick to surfaces and chain arc bolts to other mines. It’s great for DPS and will help you take down dungeon and raid bosses in no time at all, so it’s definitely a good one to pick up.
To farm Anarchy, you’ll need to either run through the Scourge of the Past raid with 5 others or join one in progress. Anarchy only drops from the final encounter after defeating the Insurrection Prime, Kell’s Scourge final boss. This takes a little bit of coordination and there’s plenty of guides out there on how to do this encounter.
Anarchy is very strong, plus the raid is going into the Destiny Content Vault, so I’d get it before it goes away. The tick damage is great and you’ll be tearing through PVE activities in no time at all, so this one will be great for the upcoming raid in the Depp Stone Crypt come November.
Falling Guillotine is a legendary sword that sits in the power weapon slot and deals void damage. It comes with Vortex Frame where you can launch a heavy spin attack and heavy attacks are stronger with full energy and attacks partially bypass elemental shields. It also comes with Whirlwind Blade where rapid sword strikes increase the weapon’s damage for a short duration.
The curated roll comes with Energy Transfer where guarding while receiving damage generates class ability energy and whirlwind blade as we described before, enduring blade for the increase in sword ammo and heavy guard for high overall defences.
For PVE you’ll want to be looking for something like Relentless Strikes for landing three light attacks within a short time grants sword ammo and Whirlwind Blade. Relentless and Whirlwind is a pretty good combo for all swords, but this one especially when you’re dealing the big damage with the heavy spin attack.
For PVP Counterattack were blocking an attack immediately after guarding increases damage for a short duration and Tireless Blade where sword ammo granted for every powered sword kill is a decent roll.
To get Falling Guillotine you’re going to need to rank up the season pass to level 30. Once you get there you’ll unlock the initial roll, then once you unlock the pulse rifle at rank 45, you’ll be able to farm different rolls from the Prismatic Recaster and the focused engrams.
Xenophage is a machine gun for the power slot. Its main perk is Pyrotoxin Rounds, which fires high-powered explosive ammo. It’s a solar weapon and has max stats for impact, pretty good range of 71 and has 120 rpm with 20 in the magazine.
As well as Pyrotoxin Rounds come with Full Bore for that increase in range and a small decrease in stability, High Calibre Rounds which knock the target back further, Rangefinder and Composite Stock. To get this one you’ll need to run through the Exotic quest, and you can check out a guide for that here.
In update 2.7.0 for Season of the Dawn, Bungie buffed Xenophage, admitting it was a little bit lacklustre in the game.
