Destiny 2 – Iron Banner in Season of Arrivals and How to Complete the Red Hot Iron Quest

Lord Saladin is back in the Tower for Iron Banner and this time he’s got some reprised and reissued weapons and some new perks. This is the first Iron Banner since the new season dropped and it’s a great chance to get some XP and pinnacle drops to help you level up if you need to. The following is a guide for Iron Banner in Season of Arrivals.

How to access Iron Banner

To get things going with Iron Banner this season go and speak to Lord Saladin in the Tower, he’s up there above Banchee-44. Head up the stairs and you can’t miss him, he’s standing in front of a massive Iron Banner logo surrounded by fire. Bonus Valor is going to be on offer throughout the event which starts on June 30 and runs through until July 7th.

Iron Banner Rewards

Have a chat with Lord Saladin and pick up all the available bounties as these will be good for levelling up that season pass if you still need to do that. These are also going to be pinnacle rewards, meaning it’s going to help you level up in Season of Arrivals.

As well as the Iron Banner weapons Saladin has some reprised weapons for us in The Forward Path Auto rifle and The Fool’s Remedy Sidearm. Both of these new weapons have two new perks on them, which could be very useful.

  • Iron Grip – Improves weapon stability at the cost of reload speed.
  • Iron Gaze – Improves weapon target acquisition at the cost of range.

How to complete the Red-hot Iron quest

To get The Forward Path and The Fool’s Remedy you have to do a short quest which you can pick up from Lord Saladin called Red Hot Iron. For this you’re going to have to get 25 auto rifle kills and 25 sidearm kills. Personally, I found the auto rifle kills much easier, as good rolls of Gnawing Hunger are out there and farmable from the Prismatic Recaster. The sidearm kills are a little more tricky. if you have Breachlight, Last Hope or Autonymous Autumn then this is going to make this step a little easier. Once you complete the quest, you’ll get a random rolled drop of each The Forward Path and The Fools Remdey. I got a nice roll on The Forward Path with Eye of the Storm and Dynamic Sway Reduction and I got Iron Gaze on The Fools Remedy. I;ll go into these weapons in a little more detail in another video later in the week.

There’s also some reissued weapons including:

  • Shining Sphere (Rocket Launcher)
  • Swarm of the Raven (Grenade Launcher)
  • Talons of the Eagle (Scout Rifle)
  • Bite of the Fox (Sniper Rifle)
  • Orewing’s Maul (Grenade Launcher)
  • Crimil’s Dagger (Hand Cannon)

These all have the Season of Arrivals Max-Infusion cap, so these weapons are going to be useful as they won’t be sunset next season. Swarm of the Raven would be a good one to look out for, but otherwise, that loot pool doesn’t really float my boat. Shining Sphere possibly with the new rocket launcher mods this season, but otherwise I’m not too sure.

Throughout Iron Banner you’ll get tokens to drop and you can turn these into Lord Saladin to get loot drops. I got the helm and the class item as well as the gauntlets as a random drop while I was completing matches. I did about 10 matches and then from the tokens I got Shining Sphere, Talons of the Eagle, Bite of the Fox and Crimil’s Dagger as well as the Forward Path and The Fool’s Remedy. So it’s pretty worth your while this Iron Banner as you’ll get a fair amount of loot.

We’ve got some armour coming back in the form of the Iron Fellowship set, which look great with the new shader. There’s also a nice new emblem for us to chase.

Skill-based matchmaking has been disabled for the coming season, so remember that before jumping in. This is going to be the first Iron Banner since skill-based matchmaking was turned off in some PVP modes, so it’ll be interesting to see what you make of it. Let me know down in the comments if you think this is an improvement or made the experience much worse.

Weapons and Perks

Probably the most interesting thing about Iron Banner in Season of Arrivals, which is providing a high percentage of the motivation for playing is the new perks. The Forward Path is a returning Auto Rifle, that was originally introduced in Season 1, but it’s coming back now in Season 11 with Iron Gaze. Forward Path sits in the 600 rounds per minute slot, which is the archetype that got a major buff in Season 10 (with Gnawing Hunger and Galliard 42 being other examples).

Iron Gaze massively improves weapon target acquisition at the cost of weapon range. This is a massive -40 on the range and a buff to aim assist for +20. We’ll have to see how this turns out, as it sounds pretty crazy given the weapon itself only has 50 range in the first place. There are some nice perk combinations that can drop here including swashbuckler, multikillclip, eye of the storm and dynamic sway reduction which got a significant buff in Season of Arrivals.

The Fool’s Remedy is also coming back and this is a rapid-fire frame that can shoot in full auto mode. This one comes with Iron Grip which massively improves weapon stability at the cost of reload speed. We’ve already had some great new perks this season including Killing Wind, Unrelenting and Sympathetic Arsenal and we’ll have to see how these new perks turn out. Let me know down in the comments if you’ve got these weapons to drop and what do you think of the new perks?

Jump in, get the rewards and this will really help you level up and get some more XP if you’re still on the journey to level 30 and 45 on the season pass. Also, try out the weapons and perks and let me know what you think of them.
