Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – How to access the Pit of Heresy Dungeon

This is a walkthrough for how to access the Pit of Heresy Dungeon in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep.

Dungeons were first introduced to Destiny 2 during the Forsaken Expansion and act like mini raids – they offer the same challenge and puzzles as raids without having to coordinate a 6 person team.

The following is a guide for how to access the dungeon and complete the steps of the quest along the way. You’ll have to own Destiny 2: Shadowkeep to access the dungeon and be a minimum of 880 power, although the dungeon minimum requirements are 940 so it’s recommended to be higher than this if possible.

Pick up The Deepening Wake quest

To start your journey to the dungeon go and speak to Eris Morn on the moon and pick up the quest The Deepening Wake. For this step, you want to go to a new activity called The Altars of Sorrow found near Sorrow’s Harbour.

Complete The Altars of Sorrow

You’ll fight against waves of enemies similar to Escalation Protocol and Blond Well. The Altar of Sorrows has been added to the map of the moon which can be accessed from the director. When you reach Sorrows Harbour you’ll see green energy emerging from spheres all around you. The objective here is to kill all of the Nightmares that come out of the spheres and progress through the levels. Each level gets progressively harder and more Nightmares to emerge from the spheres. Basically, kill them all.

As you get to crunch time in the Altar of Sorrows Wizards will start appearing that have protective shields and you’ll want to kill the Knights to get a weapon to break the shields. Keep one eye on the Nightmares roaming around the map, as they will move from one sphere to another. Kill all the Nightmares then you’ll face a final boss at the end. This week it’s the Nightmare of Phogoth. Take out the enemies, keeping an eye on the timer and take down the final boss before the clock runs out.

To complete the quest step you have to defeat 20 nightmares and open a chest at the end above Tier III. The activity is action-packed with nightmare Ogres and Wizards coming at you from all angles. Once you have defeated the enemies and opened the chest, head back to Eris Morn.

Speak to Eris Morn

In the next step of the quest speak to Eris Morn and she’ll ask you to head into the Pit of Heresy.

Go to the Pit of Heresy

You can now select the Pit of Heresy from the director on the moon near Sorrow’s Harbour. You’ll need to be a minimum of 940 to have any chance in the dungeon but you’ll want to be higher and nearer 950 or 960 as the bosses in the dungeon get progressively harder.
