GameFreak, the game studio behind the popular Pokémon series have said the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield will not support all Pokémon species.
As well as not being able to get all Pokémon we’re not going to be able to transfer Pokemon outside of the regional Pokedex. The sheer number of Pokemon in existence will exceed 1000 with Pokémon Sword & Shield and therefore making them all available is becoming increasingly harder.
GameFreak Producer Junichi Masuda said to Famitsu “The total number of Pokémon has exceeded 1000, including new Pokemon and the form change of existing Pokemon. As a result, it has become extremely difficult to make Pokémon with a new personality play an active part and to balance the compatibility, in addition to making the graphic a quality adapted to changes in the hardware, and also in terms of battle. That is the reason for this decision, and we have decided that it is difficult to make all Pokemon appear in future works.”
It would be tough to include over 1000 character models on a less powerful system like the Nintendo Switch.
“This decision is personally sad and sad. Of course, I wanted to be able to bring all Pokemon if I could do it, but it was also a decision that I had to make some day. In the end, I had no choice but to choose the quality.”
Although we’re not going to be able to catch ’em all in Pokémon Sword and Shield, we will be able to upload and store our Pokemon in the central cloud system, Pokemon Home. Then maybe one day we’ll be able to have them all in one place again.
