Epic Games have acquired Psyonix Developers of the hit game Rocket League.
Epic Games has been flexing their financial muscles recently with exclusives for their Epic Game Store and that looks set to continue with the acquisition of Psyonix and Rocket League. They announced the news in a press release on Wednesday.
Epic’s purchase of Psyonix will mean Rocket League is coming to the Epic Game Store later in 2019, however, will remain on steam for the time being. The game will be removed from Steam once it’s made available on the Epic Game Store.
Rocket League reached 50 million players as of September 2018 proved to be one of the most popular games on PC in recent years. It’s won multiple awards including BAFTAs for Multiplayer, Sport and Family in 2016.
Psyonix said on their website “In the short term, nothing will change at all! We’re still committed to providing Rocket League with frequent updates that have new features, new content, and new ways to play the game for as long as you’ll have us. In the long-term, we expect to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before. We believe that bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for everybody.”
Epic’s acquisition of Psyonix should be complete by the “end of May/June 2019”
