Gearbox may have let the release date for Borderlands 3 (and some more details) slip.
The Official Borderlands 3 twitter account tweeted out saying ‘Mayhem is coming September 13. Pre-order now for the Gold Weapon Skins Pack’. The tweet was subsequently deleted.
As well as the date the tweet may have provided clued as to which store the game is going to be available on. The tweet included the Epic Game Store logo and not Steam. That could mean the PC release of Borderlands 3 could be an Epic Games store exclusive at launch.
Randy Pitchford, the boss at Gearbox, then stated he “Was happy to shop in different stores… Exclusives are fine when they come with advantages and they are short, say 6 months :)”. Randy also said he “had a very keen interest in cross-platform play” and “Epic’s leadership with cross platform support is helpful to our interests”.
It will be interesting to see if cross-platform play is something that is planned for launch or maybe Gearbox will add it down the line. We’ll have to wait for official confirmation regarding the release date but September 13 isn’t too long to wait.
